So, evidently, when the wheels start to spin on this Corolla, the transmission simply disengages. At least that's what my wife is reporting, as she's stuck out there in the boonies. I can't get out in my old 87 Ram 50, of course, to help in any way. Rear-wheel drive & all...

Fortunately, I have a friend on his way home that'll be there in about 10 minutes to help her up that little hill she's stuck on. He has an 06 Toyota 4-wheel drive that will get him where he needs to go.

I'm really hating this car! I noticed before that when it began to slip on an icy road there was this beeping, like they programmed the damned thing to alert me that it's slipping. Yeah, THAT's just when you need those kinds of distractions, ain't it?

There's just too damned many bells & whistles on these things. I expected a front-wheel drive to be better in the snow, but NNNNNNNnnnnnnoooooo! It just stops & refuses to frikken MOVE at all!

What a crock!

When Im driving ice and snow..no radio, no talking, window down to hear the road talking back, and yeah I hate bells and whistles also.

She got home...the car didn't...so I get to either bother ANOTHER friend or walk a cpl miles in the snow to get the damned car, tomorrow. If I had better insurance, I'd hope that someone would trash it totally...LOL

I really hate that car.

Think, FORD

They are tho ONLY manufacture of vehicles whom are standing on their own merits IMO. I put well over 100,000 on my last F150 doing not more than changing oil and buying tires. ( I put new batteries in my vehicles every two years whether it needs it or not)
That being said, I presently don't own a Ford.
But I intend to rectumfry that situation as soon as my Jeep is paid off.

I've had pretty good luck with Fords, too, sans. They run forever, but have those annoying little things what happen with little stuff like door problems, or the seats, or the interior lights, odd stuff like that that just irritate the living hell out of ya but you can't justify dumping the damned thing cuz it friken runs so well. LOL

I loved my Jeep until it started overheating. Once that starts in a Jeep it's a forever problem, from what I understand, cuz the plastic radiators they use are such crap. I replaced mine, had the entire head gasket job done, only to have the problem return a mere year later. Grrr...

This Corolla is miserable, though. I drove it for three hours & the seat about killed my back, cuz there is zero lumbar contact with my back. But this problem with the no-slip tranny is about the dumbest thing I've ever seen in a car, & I wanna trade it in so bad I could crap myself. Too bad I can't afford to do it right now.

Eh...maybe it's just an adjustment problem. I'll fnd out tomorrow when I take it in for the brake recall. Still no word on whether the gas pedal is a problem for me.

Ian took Jace to the doc yesterday & he has strep, so I guess I'll have him with me when I go. That oughtta be fun as heck. I love taking him out places, but I sure hope he's feeling better, cuz when he doesn't feel well he is a terribly whiney lil guy. Man, I wish he was able to talk! It'd make things so much better for everyone!

Strep's no fun. Watch this infection closely. Streptococci can affect the heart valves.

Thanks for that info, man. He's on anti-biotics, so I'm hoping he'll be well enough that this lil trip won't affect him any. He was pretty sick for 3 days before we took him in. This not-talking problem is really serious, when I think about it, cuz we were assuming it was just more reaction to his shunt. He still has his bad days, as the pressures in his head keep changing, I suppose. We have another appointment with the surgeon on Friday...wheee....another 6 hours in that damned Corolla!

Okay...I'm a little embarassed, but you must remember that this isn't my car! After reading the manual, I discovered that that anti-slip stuff can be turned off by simply pushing a lil button on the dash...DUH!

It never occured to me that I would need to read the manual in order to simply drive my car, but there you have it.

The brakes were fixed, but the lil symbol on my dash wasn't about the brakes...it was telling me that one of my tires needed a lil air, but the symbol looked so much like the damned symbol for the brake problem that I couldn't tell the difference. The key difference is the color of the symbol, but the manual only shows it in b & w. Red means brakes, yellow means tires. Sheesh!

Cripes...I need to go to school to learn how to drive all over again!

So everyone seems to be up in arms over this recall thingie...but what they seem to forget is that it actually only seems to be a problem in less than 2% of the vehicles sold. Does this really deserve all the BS? This is not nearly the problem that the exploding gas tanks in the Pintos was, from what I can see. Now the Transportation Secretary is telling ppl to stop driving thier Toyotas immediately & get them fixed. Um....dude? What am I s'posed to drive in the meantime? I checked, & my dealer doesn't have the fix yet. The gov't is now gonna do an in-depth investigation. What's THAT gonna cost?

Far as I can see, Toyota has been very responsible, as a company, for recognizing, admitting & trying to fix this problem (which occurs only in cars made in the USA, btw). It almost looks as though our fair gov't is out to hurt this car manufacturer, to me, while they're handling things in a much better fashion than the big 3 ever did when it came to thier own recalls.

So, if they DO manage to hurt Toyota, more American jobs will prolly be lost as a direct result of our gov't's actions...I'm still thinking Costa Rica sounds nice...

Not to worry Philby. Now Mr. LaHood say's he mispoke Huh! I guess mispoke is the politically correct way of admitting you said something stupid LOL! Now let me see if I understand what he is saying? All Toyota owners living in the U.S. many of whom are one paycheck away from being homeless are supposed to stop driving their cars to their job take a day off from work and go to the dealer who doesn't yet have the part and tell them they can't fix it yet so by the way don't drive your car.

GGRREAT!

Exactly. I guess those idjits in our gov't think we all have the same kinda cushy jobs that they do.
