Bet you can't ...

Well, one day when a huge bandmix jamboree get-together happens, I'll give it a whirl.
You can mercilessly make fun of me if I fail.
Or heck, even if I dont fail.

Thanx for all the replies, guys. :)

Years ago, my cousin gave me a JIMI HENDRIX cassette called EARLY INSTRUMENTALS. There are a couple of cool songs on there with keys. I think one of them is called 'Knock Yourself Out'.

The piano player in Lynyrd Skynyrd is particularly awesome. I forgot his name and was he one of the members who died in the plane crash? I'll bet he studied some of the blues greats like Otis Spann and Pine Top Perkins. He sounded like he could step right into any top blues band...

HEY FISHERMAN BOB,
As I recall, Lynyrd Skynyrd's keyboard player was, Billy Powell. He died a while back, at his home, in Florida. Massive Heart attack.

Damn shame, the man was one of the best keyboard players ever...

"Frankenstein" by Edgar Winter also a great marching band song :)

I've always been a big keyboards fan, especially the B3 and Wurlitzer electric piano. Even have a Wurly :D

Nobody has mentioned PINK FLOYD???? Damn...

A relatively unknown group, Greenslade is an old favorite, along with Genesis, Yes, Kansas and ELP.

Phil - I have Lamb Lies Down in the CD case I keep in my Jeep, it was one of the ones picked to go to Baltimore last winter. Also like Trick of the Tail really well, and some pretty good stuff on And then there were Three. Oone of my greatest losses was when I found out my cassette copy of Nursery Crime was trashed and unplayable...Oh yeah, remember the very end of Green Eyed Lady where the B3 dropped in pitch? I wondered how they did that for years, and found out by accident about 10 years ago when we were playing around with a friend's M3. Turn the power switch off...I bet Howlin knows that...

Edgar Winter is also an old favorite, Johnny too, I guess Dying To Live and Easy Street would be my favorite Edgar tunes. But he did a lot of other great ones too, Undercover Man, Tobacco Road, I'm Not A Kid Any More, Free Ride...can't remember half of them.

Anyhoo...Anybody remember Boz Scaggs' Somebody Loan Me A Dime with Duanne Allman on guitar? Somebody did some nice B3 work in that one, and how can we leave out Booker T and the MG's Green Onions??? Of course I like the version Roy Buchannon did a lot better...

Also a lot of Joe Walsh songs had good keys...Welcome to the Club, At the Station, Help me Through the Night, Turn to Stone...

Then there's Electric Light Orchestra...Dire Straits...Head East (Never Been Any reason is GREAT)...

Almost posted and remembered...Supertramp. Bloody Well Right, School, Rudy, Breakfast in America, Logical Song, Dreamer...

There's loads of great keyboard songs out there, way too many to list, hell, probably half the songs I play onstage right now are keyboard songs and I just transpose them to guitar and keep rockin...no, I don't even try to make it sound like a keyboard, just try to do it on guitar instead and make it sound good. .

Can't believe I left out "Frankenstein!" Man, I loved that tune when it came out!

Hey! Howzabout "Hocus Pocus" by Focus? Those keys cracked me up in there. Very playful piece.

Stevie Winwood, anyone?

Billy Joel?

The Piano Man. Billy Joel also wrote a classical piece about 10 years ago.

Frankenstein was cool.

OK if we're gonna post you tubies, here ya go...

Frankenstein - so named because Edgar Winter and Rick derringer put it together from dozens of cropped pieces of tape from a couple of different jam sessions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85ekf15N ... re=related

Hocus Pocus - the group was very unhappy when it became such a great hit because it was never intended to be a serious composition at all, it was a jam they put together in the practice room to warm up on, just a joke and was added to the album as filler. They never took it as a serious song at all and never intended for it to be released as a single. It became their biggest hit and they weren't happy about it.

Hocus Pocus - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpV5InLw ... re=related Check out that Wurli! Great guitar player too.

OMG! How did we ever forget Jethro Tull???

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdz_G1VG ... re=related

That Hamer Martin Barre is playing is the same one I lost a chance to buy a few months ago, but with a different finish, by the way. I've seen Tull 3 times, all were the best shows ever. Ian Anderson is the best showman I've ever seen.
