I've always been a big keyboards fan, especially the B3 and Wurlitzer electric piano. Even have a Wurly
Nobody has mentioned PINK FLOYD???? Damn...
A relatively unknown group, Greenslade is an old favorite, along with Genesis, Yes, Kansas and ELP.
Phil - I have Lamb Lies Down in the CD case I keep in my Jeep, it was one of the ones picked to go to Baltimore last winter. Also like Trick of the Tail really well, and some pretty good stuff on And then there were Three. Oone of my greatest losses was when I found out my cassette copy of Nursery Crime was trashed and unplayable...Oh yeah, remember the very end of Green Eyed Lady where the B3 dropped in pitch? I wondered how they did that for years, and found out by accident about 10 years ago when we were playing around with a friend's M3. Turn the power switch off...I bet Howlin knows that...
Edgar Winter is also an old favorite, Johnny too, I guess Dying To Live and Easy Street would be my favorite Edgar tunes. But he did a lot of other great ones too, Undercover Man, Tobacco Road, I'm Not A Kid Any More, Free Ride...can't remember half of them.
Anyhoo...Anybody remember Boz Scaggs' Somebody Loan Me A Dime with Duanne Allman on guitar? Somebody did some nice B3 work in that one, and how can we leave out Booker T and the MG's Green Onions??? Of course I like the version Roy Buchannon did a lot better...
Also a lot of Joe Walsh songs had good keys...Welcome to the Club, At the Station, Help me Through the Night, Turn to Stone...
Then there's Electric Light Orchestra...Dire Straits...Head East (Never Been Any reason is GREAT)...
Almost posted and remembered...Supertramp. Bloody Well Right, School, Rudy, Breakfast in America, Logical Song, Dreamer...
There's loads of great keyboard songs out there, way too many to list, hell, probably half the songs I play onstage right now are keyboard songs and I just transpose them to guitar and keep rockin...no, I don't even try to make it sound like a keyboard, just try to do it on guitar instead and make it sound good. .
I'm a member of the BOMB SQUAD.
If you see me running, better catch up!
