Whenever you guys put up anything that is "flutey" I play along with you.
Not because I think I am improving on what is already great but because I want to have fun with what you are doing. I love triplets, the melody and the fact that it was without vocal. It is mindful of something Billy Mclaughlin would do.

I think you and I would have an amazingly fun time just putting together something with acoustic guitars and flute. That would be a real thrill.

There's no singing because frankly, I can't sing a lick. I mean, I'm bad beyond belief. I make karaoke people sound professional.

I have a much easier time expressing myself with the melodies on guitar.

Shoot, I play flute because I cannot sing. What's nice about having no vocal on your piece, is that I only need to not get in the way of the guitar. With vocals I have to not only watch for the guitar part but I have to not step on the toes of the vocalist as well. It gives me a tad more freedom to provide a "tastier" accompaniment.

Hey Mary dont pick on us Karoake Junkies.

The timbre of a flute sits real well with acoustic guitar to me. Ive played with a couple of flute players, its doesnt seem to work well with distorted guitars, but clean guitars it just sits in the mix real well to my ears.

Hey colors ,I hope you don't mind, but I thought that was such a well played track that I ran it through a quick mastering program to try to bring out the beauty. download it off my profile and compare. The funny thing is your original track was 7.4 mb and the file I worked off was5.5 mb all mp3.
Download it and let me know what you think, [compare] maybe put it up next to the original tracks and see what any one says.
Any way good clean tracks well played,,,,,,NICE.

Gonghead,

Thanks man!

Thanks for the compliment on the track; and that goes for everyone who has said something. The feedback has been nice.

I really like what you did with it. It's a bit too "bright" for my tastes, but I think it's an improvement over the recording I have, and I think it certainly shows what you're capable of doing with it. I'd love to hear another version that maybe wasn't so bright sounding.

But dude - I so appreciate it! I'm flattered that you took the time. Really.

It's been kind of inspiring to read this feedback, both here and elsewhere. I'm definitely going to keep writing and try and get some more stuff out. That song... was just a lark really. I needed something to try out the H2 and that was what came to mind.

REALLY enjoyed that. I saw on your profile gigs played under 10? You sound way too experienced to have less than ten gigs under your belt.

I'm not a huge fan of these particular live performances, but they're the only thing that's really available from Enchant on YouTube. But I think the solos to "Pure" and "Follow The Sun", as well as the outro work he does on both songs, is pretty indicative of his work as a lead guitar player. And I find it just mesmerizing, emotional, and powerful.

I can understand their influence. I am having a hard time listening to music on Youtube...it shuts my computer down. So I couldn't listen to the entire video. I had some flute ideas there also. When I hear guitar, either acoustic or electric, I can "hear" myself playing. It has only been recently that I even began to prefer partnering up with a guitar instead of piano. Hmmm, I am sure that aging has caused me to just slow down and listen.

Anywho I do agree that if you don't have something or need to fill a gap then do what you do best.

After all.
That is how stars are born.......

Chippy, I met Sir James. I had a student who auditioned to perform with him in a giant flute choir and of course she aced her audition and I went to hear the performance. What was funny is she had no idea who James Galway was. I was triply proud. The performance was a tribute to Ohioan, Henry Mancini, flutist and composer who died of cancer in the 90s. He and James were friends. There was a stamp being introduced that pictured Mr. Mancini which was the purpose of the event.

PLUS, John Glen, another friend of the late HM. Oh yeah, he was also a senator from Ohio. It was a very proud day for me.

I can make you change your mind  about the distorted guitars. No one is more distorted than a flute player. You just have to know how to use your own power and blow it into your axe. :P

in a world full of folks who are all about going fast, and don't ever 'say anything'... it's nice to hear someone develop some phrasing.
v nice.

on both this song and the catalyst you bend a bit out of tune... work on that...

not that I'm an expert but in school they had us do this exercise where we'd play a note, then bend up to it from 1 fret down, then play the note again, then bend up to it from 2 frets down, etc, etc. I always kind of liked the exercise... not sure why.

anywho nice work.

I appreciate the compliment Bob!

I've been playing guitar for about 16 years. But playing and playing out are two totally different things. It wasn't until about a year and a half ago that I decided to get serious about either forming a band or getting into an established one and playing shows.

In our area, it can be really difficult to get a working band together. And the small number of local bands we have is a testament to that fact. We've been working on our band for a year and a half now. After numerous lineup changes we're about ready. We're trying to put together a show at the end of September, or something in October. I can't wait to bump that number, for sure.

Yeah, I know about the bend. I winced when I heard it - but I didn't want to do another 4-minute take. I only attempted the one bend in the acoustic song, and as soon as I went for it I knew I wasn't going to reach it; the string tension that high up on the neck on the acoustic was too much.

I know what exercise you're talking about. I've done that in the past and try and do that when I feel like I'm not bending very well. It's a good exercise to know.

I really want to get something composed and recorded on my electric, because I feel like I've really grown as a musician the past 18 months, and I want to get something down that's "me" as opposed to a feat of engineering prowess.

You know a slight bend that bugs you is called human, 4 minutes of playing live and thats what bugs you... that's nothing It only makes it real and very good.If this was a perfect world It would be very boring. Those are little paint brush strokes that people either accept or don't.

I'm gonna knock out some of the brightness and see if you like it better, it might give you a reference point as to how you mix and record. I just like it and I'm having fun. Remember this is all mp3 and I'm waiting for RG MIX to weigh in. I will leave it up till sunday before I take it down. Good track good performance, Talk to ya lata.
