topic = Drummers & Lead Singers - A Theory
Well, I think it's a bit juvenile to generalize ALL drummers as being overly confident and aggressive. I assume you're talking about heavy metal... what else, right? I wouldn't even label all hardcore drummers as 'aggressive'... And I don't believe it takes ego or aggression to be a front man either (when did these become standards? That's all news to me...). And who cares about being 'in back'? We're all 'in back' of our instruments... If a band has great fans then they know all about the drummer and are there to see him/her just as much as the other musicians. If a drummer has any of the qualities you speak of then I think he/she is just starved for attention...
ok, as I see it ... You are the one that started all the sarcasm ....
notice in Your own words what You said....
I too am (as You stated) 40+ and am a drummer, however starved for attention becasue of someomone's qualities? I ask You this ...Niel Pert ... is He starved for attention? what of Sonny Bozzio? these ar just 2 of the many drummers I have seen and met and yet when they play they can do what is required of them musically and back ANYBODY .... the string started off about the atitutudes ... now as Me for a drummer it is hard to play behind someone that does not stick to the song and tries to (blow the roof off" and throws everyone off. I have seen 1st hand and delt with that crap (and probaly will continue ) as long as I remain in the bussiness... now before You start spouting off I ask You ...
1). what is Your experience?
2). how long have You been playing professionally?
3). how often have You toured?
4). how many studio's have You been in?
reason I ask is while most of Us in the "over-the-hill-gang-" (as You might like to put it) HAVE paid OUR dues, have the experience,have played professionally,have done studio work, have been on the road,
I myself was a studio drummer for WB in Branson,I sit behind the guys and back them on stage, why? ever go to a show and see a set of drums up front? why not?
in closing ... when You finally dry off those ears and get some expierence then perhaps ppl shall start taking You seriously.
