I hear STP (Stone Temple Pilots, for those who might not know) is reuniting for a tour. I do not know much about it, but I thought I would start a topic on it an see what everyone thinks.

Irish Anthony, you may be interested in seeing a band that is similar to your sound! :D

Peace out to all and sorry for the lack of info, but this is all I know about it, GuitarAnatomy.

I heard the same thing. I have a love hate relationship with STP. When they came out I ragged them for sounding like Pearl Jam. It's the leaders are cool sheep are geeks thing again for me. Then I hear a couple of tracks I like. Then I get an album and think well that's 3 - 4 songs per album are great. The rest suck. His lyrics can be really bad. His melodies can too. Sometimes they hit and it's just lightening hot. The guitars and bass are the same for me. Sometimes fierce and monumental sometimes I'm just like what were you thinking? I'd like to see them reunite.

I knew STP was dead when I hear "Saliva" doing "Ladies and Gentlemen" and I thought it was STP.

or

The first time I heard Velvet Revolver doing "Slither".

The STP row boat is sinking quickly, better start swimming for shore.

Lmao. Yeah, they call you you better take it. I have to find a way to take you to that concert, and then go "See, I told you so, you sound just like him."

Then you will agree and have no choice but to play STP stuff when you perform live. *Thumbs up*

And yes, they do sound like other bands of that time, but it was the Grunge Era, and alternative rock time. So many of those bands were similar, especially to my ears STP and Pearl Jam (The vocals, not the songs). I used to think the song by STP called "Wicked Garden" was Pearl Jam, until I was told different.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

I saw them open for the Chilli Peps a few yrs ago...they weren't nothing to brag about, but weren't too awful, either...I remember thinking "eh"

Some of thier material's pretty good, but as far as getting excited about thier reunion...well...it's wasted on me

Now, if it was the old band actually CALLED "STP," that might be a lil different...nah...that doesn't excite me either...you had me going there for a sec, Kelly

If the Talking Heads were gonna do a reunion tour...DAMN RIGHT I'D BE THERE!!!!

Haven't read the previous posts, but I can honestly say that Weiland lost a huge portion of his vocal abilities through his addictions. As far as the band goes, they were doing great in Army Of Anyone featuring Richard (of Filter).
The reunion sounds like a financial cry of help. Just sayin'

Nope, it's on.. my friend is going to the Toronto show.

*cough* generic sound *cough*
No really.. Weiland sounds strained live.. his vocals are permanently damaged, and musically, he doesn't connect well with Slash. Just my opinion, and I respect yours.

generic? ok that's interesting.

Ok, so what is your answer? No fair calling generic without supplying another answer.

(PS for being generic, that whole band is pretty good to me)

And if Weiland's vocals are damaged, I can bet that someone makes something to stick on his vocal effects chain that makes him sound good.

When I go see a band and the vocals are 100% naked, I am notoriously bored by the lack of imagination. Why even use electric instruments? Ya'll going acoustic next? lol

Nothing different that will distinguish their sound from others. They're non-compatible, imo, as I mentioned IN MY PREVIOUS POST.

Captain Scott wrote:(PS for being generic, that whole band is pretty good to me)

Personal opinion. I disagree, but I respect it. It looks like a cool supergroup to me, but doesn't sound so "super."

Performing live is the artist's true test. If one can't pull it off half the time (a little reverb in the mic is alright), then the test has been failed.

Again, personal opinion. I think that if your vocals (on their own) can have a good impact on me, it's different and it's not "generic," then I have listened to true talent.
And for the record, you can play anything acoustically and it will still sound good. You gotta know how to play it though.

??!!????

Ok, I have to laugh a little there. I won't touch an acoustic guitar because what can be done with an electric is immense compared to what can be done with just an acoustic. (no pickup or amp)

If you are proficient with both on an equal level, I find that an eye opener.

Yeah the original version of the guitar, you know the cat gut strings on a classical? It does absolutely nothing for me..

Electric or throw it back...
