I know i'm kinda late in the coversation but that thing that you twirl is actually called a Bullroarer. Authentic Didg's are made from termite hollowed eucalyptus and like bluesguitargrl said you play it buy buzzing the lips simialar to a trumpet and using different vocalizations through it, such as cherps and barks, tongue twops, vowel and consenunt sounds and such all while maintaining a constant drone. As for jamming, i only play with a group of guys every sunday. :? i need to get out more!

oops.....never mind.......please disregard everything i just said...i see all this info has been covered already. Damn it, i need to start reading the whole thread before i reply. Oh well... :?

Its kind of hard to define the music we play. RockJazz/bluegrass/psychodelic folk funkness (jam band)
This last saturday we actually got with a keyboard player and that guy was amazing! Said he's been playin since he was 2 and he is 21 now. It made for an awsome jam and we met him from this website.

Yeah, I run into the same thing when people ask what kind of music I play, too.
I play what I feel - it can sound like jazz, and 10 minutes later - like bluegrass - 10 minutes later - like classical, then like rock, or blues, or funk, but usually everything I play sounds kind of jazzy, with a fast tempo, often with unusual rhythms.
Best of luck to you & your band.

Last night, I had the wonderful opportunity of doing something I hadn't done before - played with a bunch of Hawaiian musicians. It was a riot. I brought my celtic harp to jam with them, and usually when you start hauling a harp in, alot of folks can give it an odd look like they don't know quite what to make of it. But these guys were so gracious, so welcoming, they plugged me in and off we went. The music was surprisingly easy to pick up on, with a few standard transitions you get used to after awhile.

At one point, several of the women got up and did a hula to one of the pieces we were playing. What a feeling. I hope I can do that again sometime.
