I very much abused my ears when younger. I sat in the loge - level with the monster PA speakers, which were about 30 feet away - for Led Zeppelin's Song Remains the Same Tour. I was deaf in my right ear for 5 days after that.
Years of band playing, usually with the drummer on my left has resulted in my left ear being worse than my right one - all those cymbal crashes.
Many years at the race track with loud cars zooming by for hours. Sometimes they hurt - specially the high-revving V6s.
More loud concerts than I can recount. Never started wearing ear plugs until a couple of years ago.
So now the tinnitus (ringing) is all the time, worse in my left ear than right. I did a hearing test and everything dropped off at 12.5kHz - it was about 14.5kHz 2 years ago. I started taking vitamin B12, might not help, but couldn't hurt, read some studies that said it might help. I hope I'm dead before the high threshold drops a lot lower.

So, how's your hearing?

My ears ring sometimes louder then othertimes

Meditation helps even 5 or 10 minutes a day

B-12 is the only drug I take

My hearing has always been bad in my left ear. I had severe troubles in that ear as a child lots of inner ear infections in that ear. Eventually I outgrew it but still have bad hearing in the left ear. I have been a carpenter my entire life no hearing protection at all until about 20 years ago when I realized I was getting old and started wearing it. I have been a rock guitar player with loud Marshall stacks for over 40 years. These days I feel very blessed after all that abuse to have excellent hearing in one ear(right) and excellent eyesight in one eye.

I work on loud equipment and play on loud equipment in the garage. Spend all the time I can working on my music with my headphones on. It's scary to think of losing my hearing (like my grandfather who worked in a munitions plant during WWII). Luckily I started wearing ear plugs a long time ago. The tinnitus only acts up after a jam session in the garage with everything cranked (I wear my headphones during those times too. Always take ear plugs to shows. I get mocked. Whatever. Go deaf. It's real cool.

i'm fluent in ASL (American Sign Language).....and that's great as it allows me to communicate w Deaf who know and use ASL (that'd be most Deaf).

Unfortuanately ME knowing ASL will not help me when i lose MY hearing since most people do NOT know how to communicate that way!

I blew out the midrange in my left ear playing "Love Lies Bleeding" in a club in Underground Atlanta. The previous band had left their gear so I was playing through a monstrous Sun Solaris amp. I couldn't hear the bass (which bounces all over the place) so like a dumb ass i kept putting my ear closer to the amp...

It hasn't gotten any better, far from it. After a failed experimental asthma treatment my heart stopped playing in 4/4 time so i had to get that fixed. Well, they fixed the timing problem (thank God, I am after all a bass player) but my left ear hardly works at all. Not their problem they tell me... whatever...

Nasty sad stories here. Aside from normal aging, we are all exposed to high DB sounds that contribute to hearing loss.
That includes lawn mowers, chain saws, even loud pipes from a motorcycle.

Just another one that everyone should be aware of are those EARBUDS. I know too many people with hearing loss because of cranking it up with those little bad boys.

The roses in the windowbox
Have tilted to one side
Everything about this house
Was born to grow and die

Oh it doesn't seem a year ago
To this very day
You said I'm sorry honey
If I don't change the pace
I can't face another day

And love lies bleeding in my hand
Oh it kills me to think of you with another man
I was playing rock and roll and you were just a fan
But my guitar couldn't hold you
So I split the band
Love lies bleeding in my hand

Always loved that song w deceptively simple but brilliant playing from all involved.

I'm a huge Dee Murray (bass) fan. definitely on my short list of favorite rock bassists.

and this song is a great example of his skills, and genius. i love the way he "withholds the bass" at the beginning of the song and at the quiet section leading into and thru the first few bars of the gtr solo....and man...when HE COMES IN w that great crunchy tone. yeah, baybeee!!!

that was one his pet moves..."withholding the bass".

like mccartney, who i believe was likely a big influence on him.....he really knew how to keep things moving forward by adding new things and variations along the way thru a song.

after delaying his entrance, he starts off on this song on the verse playing on the roots of the chords.....which works great. but then as soon as the chorus begins he changes it up to that little bouncy root-fifth feel. perfect!
