w regards to what people will play for....

if a band plays for "peanuts" at venues where myself and other musicians have been playing for a fair wage...that impacts us. so, yeah, i DO have a problem w that.

but other musicians w no other options to play in front of an audience who are willing to play for "peanuts" at open mics, swap meets, or even busking....hey, that doesn't bother me in the least. i'm glad they have an op to share their music. :D

as i've said before.....one of my favorite gigs is the two or three times every season that MERE MORTALS plays a large Farmer's Mkt gig in Columbia MO. our pay is what the vendors contribute (meats, bags of expensive coffee, produce, herbs, fresh baked breads, etc) and there's always a good haul in the tip jar.

best of all, there are always enthusiastic and appreciative listeners who fill the picnic tables by the "stage". life's good!

and your evidence is mounting as to your preconceived ideas about people only given opportunity to busk at swap meets ? I can guarantee you the musicians busking at Mountaineer's swap meet are getting more looks ( 7500-11,000 viewers paid customers) than a truck stop is getting, and we don'y even know what a truck-stop pays it's "help"

aw c'mon dane...don't be so thin skinned! it's not a good look for you.

you've made it perfectly clear that how much i make on my gigs is a sore point and one you apparently obsess over as you can't help yourself from continually bringing it up!

am i right or am i right? ....it's one you keep bringing up again and again. and after you asked many times what i'm paid and i didn't tell you....well, you've been trying to paint it ever since that i'm poorly compensated or not compensated at all. (w/o having ANY idea what i'm actually paid)

that's kinda sad that you have no idea how much i make but that doesn't prevent you from acting otherwise.

i've cut you some slack on this because as you stated you've been out of the gigging scene since what...the '80's?

the truth of the matter is i don't share what my bands are paid at particular venues because every band that plays these same venues has a different arrangement. pros don't share that kind of info on a public forum.

isn't that plain old common sense and as obvious the chip you're carrying on your shoulder?

look, it simply isn't good business to advertise or brag about what my bands are paid at any venue. and on a public forum??? really?

but, again.... the truth is you have ZERO idea what i'm paid. so please, get over it. (or don't)

i'm not gonna apologize for being a lucky S.O.B who is compensated for gigging as much as i do in three working bands and solo gigs..... but, if that sticks in your craw, and as such you feel you need to continue w your silly assertions that i'm working for "peanuts" to make you feel better....if that helps you sleep better at night....knock yourself out.

Just a counterpoint to that, I once did mention how much I made at a gig and Dayne wrote that he wouldn't have told anybody that. Then again it might have been Leonard Dylan (?) because I always thought they were the same person.

I was just thinking about taking my Canon SX-130 camera to the swap meet this coming Sunday and taking a few pictures of Lynyrd with his permission of course, we ususally set up across from each other on the souhteast corner of the "field" .. so many vendors there last Sunday when I arrived at 5:15 AM could not quite get there, he was down a space across the "path"/road" walking lane".. I always bring the VOX MINI-3 battery powered amp so potential customers can test any guitar I might be peddling that Sunday.. and if it gets slow I busk a little sometimes after seeding the open case, other times not..hopefully my friend from Ozark, Mo. who I played with briefly last summer in Jesse Cole James band will come with his guitar, I invited him to come up, but so far all I have gotten from him is a facebook like for my comment..LOL

and a one-off concert deal is one thing....but a regular gig at a venue that someone routinely plays at?????

WHY IN THE WORLD would anyone share the deal they negotiated... on a public forum when there are other bands playing those same venues w different deals?

that's simply not how it's done.

but, this same friend (Robert Stilson ) also wanted me and him to get together to entertain for Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds Co. some time back, I think my enlarged ego forced me to mention that "offer" here on the board, once again, I am not a fan of driving 41 miles one way to Ozark, Mo. to see if it could develop into something.. sorry, not a big fan of spending 50 to get a yield of 40.. but who knows, maybe I am dumb for not wanting to invest time, gas money, and wear and tear into it..

Whoever it was that said it (Leonard or Dayne) they were right. It's no one's business, really.

Seems like I was trying to show why writing was the way to go, and why recording artist is what we all are really aspiring for.

What?????? Up to 11 thousand people at a swap meet? Or do you mean 11000 people over 52 weeks (that's about 200 people a week - but how many are the same people week after week?)
