fake name memphis1.....question;

Do you resent trying to prove to everyone here that you are not retarded?

How come 8 year old kids can produce better music than you?

Are you 7 years old?

Just asking......

Happy New Year to you too, rich. lol I got a chance to listen to the pass a round you, planetguy and dayne were working on...cm7...not bad. Could use some keys though. Mind if I take a crack at it? I mean, I'm no Herbie Hancock, but I think I see where its headed. Not Ready...is ready now.

i'd look forward to hearing what you can do with this tune.

here's the thing about rg....besides being a very competent musician and writer....he is very VERY adept at creating super clean and pro sounding recordings. he is rightfully proud of that skill as no doubt he's invested much time into learning that craft and $ into the necessary equip to make it happen. it's clear he knows his way around that stuff.

so, in a recent offering of his that he generously served up....it was w this proviso.... that the recording/production quality of his initial rhythm trk got it's proper due and respect.

(i do believe that was directed toward dane who has in the past put out some recordings that weren't well...very well recorded). not a slam...just what it is.

now, i totally get RG's take on this, and i'm w him there.

after i dropped that bass line, i was disappointed that it died a slow death beeding out in the alley after that.

jook was gonna jump on it, as was Dave (Cajun Daddy).....dane was patiently waiting in the wings for them to do something....when they never did....dane ran w it.

and if you've read and are current w that thread.... http://forum.bandmix.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=32046

.....i expressed my problem w dane's take, as it introduced all kinds of weird artifacts to the bass line. http://forum.bandmix.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=32046

at the time i didn't want to slam the guy around too much other than how his recording skills had screwed up the audio aspects of the track.

BUUUUT, anyone w ears, and willing to be honest will also recognize that most of the gtr playing ...(and certainly where he tried to double the melody that the bass played thru the Head).... it's way off in another zip code w the pitches, and it's in another time zone w re. to hooking up.

Long winded i am today!

so....what I am saying is i'd be interested to hear what ideas you (or jook, or DP, or Dave, or........) might have for this.

i have no interest at all in hearing you or anyone else working w the version that includes Dane's all over the gtr take.

so...are you ready? :D

@planetguy
Don't screw up the sound when I add my part, got it.

So cm7 blues is about to get my jazz hands. lol Both planetguy and rgmixproject are in the zone on this jam. I'll push the envelope with some cool keys and leave some room for daynenobodyiv to add lead guitar. Dayne, I'll start the first two mins then you come in with a smooth lead for two mins. It should work if we time in right. Sweet.

alright the hook's been set (doesn't matter who's holding the rod or which of any of us is the fish....just funnin')

i was gonna say.... approach it anyway you want (that's how RG has presented all his 'donations')... either w you taking on a full blown multitrack approach.... or just laying down some comping chords for other's to blow over...or do whatever floats your boat as my mom likes to say.

i like your idea of leaving things open ended to leave room for others to contribute.

I don't know about that ready, maybe Dave can drop something onto it.. I did some research, and found out planetguy likes to do WMA files for pass around, seems Ableton the rig I use is not compativble with WMA file conversions into mp3 format, that is what caused planetguy to bitch about the warbling sound, maybe find somebody with Pro Tools or something to lay down a jaa lead guitar riff.. planetguy's rudeness does not bother me, seven guitarists, all top notch players were turned down on Peg by Steelty Dan, Jay Graydon got it.. the others were as good, it's just planetyguy is looking for something more as what he envisions, I don't see it, but planetguy does ..so be it.. LOL :D

and importing audio on the Ableton Live Lite 9.0 you have to use a mp3 file..WAV and WMA files will not be imported.. will not accept them..

against my better judgement i'm gonna address that bit of business.

dane, at no point had i slagged your playing on this take.

though there are areas i could easily find fault with.....i limited my criticism to the unacceptable bass artifacts your recording had introduced,.

and the fact that your attempt at playing the head along w the bass wasn't even close, and sounds to my ears pretty damn rough. Unison? no...not close.

though you make a lot of good and interesting comping choices (the 4th's voiced chords for instance, and where you chose to make a lot of your hits... i can appreciate).

buuuuuut....you miss a few chords changes, flub a couple of chords, and a few of your hits don't line up.

but the thing that makes it a deal breaker for me, is the fact that once you again you're guitar is just balls out of tune.

and an out of tune ANY INSTRUMENT being played against a bass w no frets.... that shares a lot of real estate in the same frequencies.......that is hard for me to listen to.

now, we don't need to get into another 10 page discussion about what's in tune and what ain't....and you don't need to mention which big and widely accepted songs had a slightly out of tune guitar solo on. frankly charlotte...i don't give a whoop.

you either hear that the gtr is out of tune w the bass....or you don't.

alternate possible scenario #2.....you do hear it, and aren't bugged by it.

so.....this is the weird and fussy (and as you deem so...."rude") kind of guy i am.... i expect and prefer "unison lines" to be be played IN UNISON or at least damn close. and when they're not......well, that's NOT so good. it sounds shitty to my fussy ears. dig?

and yeah, my "fussiness" extends to intonation as well. in the world that i prefer to live in...intonation is an important thing that is to be taken very seriously and not given short shrift to.

fair enough, planetguy, I just did not want you to think I intentionally made the sound warble?..did not notice it w/ headphones and I have a cheap set of headphones too, noticed it after I exported the audio.. I am curious to see how others interpret the Cm7 piece other than me, we ought to make in mandatory everybody does a "take"

and don't forget, I was trying to leave my playing sparse, so there would be room for additional tracks, but maybe I overplayed.. fine balance with music..it's the most perfect regarding the arts.. :) . and, like smapbob said, jazzz is not really me, it was all about trying to open new avenues musically..oh well.. :D
