Being used to everything cheap or free on the internet, I am wondering if the subscription price is worth the 12 bucks a month? Seems a bit high unless it really works for you professionally. Thanks for honest answers.

First thing to do is decide what you want from Bandmix? Are you looking to find a band, or to form a band? Check out the profile listings in your area (you can search by state/area code/etc), and see if there is anyone/any band tha tinterests you - and make sure the profile has been recently used (you'll see 'active within _____' - if its more than 1 month, then its probably not worth wasting your time on). If there are prospective people you want to contact, then pay for membership for a month.
I got 2 band gigs from this site!

Yes I do give away my music for free! Not by design but seems to that way after I do the math!!

Anyway yes 12.95 (for a month) is nothing unless you realize the resource wasnt all that useful, thats why I asked. Sams Club, for instance. I haven't met a musician yet who mentioned bandmix.

Keep comments coming thanks all.

I ran into several situations on Bandmix that were worth their weight in gold to me. But that doesn't mean you will - always kind of luck of the draw, and where are you etc...

Good luck

If Kenosha is close to Milwaukee or Madison and you're not in some exotic sub genre no one has heard of..... should be worth a one month membership. Just remember, do your research first and find dozens of leads, because the track record of this place is A LOT of members don't even respond to messages or invitations for auditions. Good luck!

All good comments. I would add that I'm an unpaid member, and always have been. When I first joined, they allowed me to contact other members--I guess it was some sort of promo--for a certain period of time; I did so, but never got even so much as a single response. There could be any number of reasons why, but the bottom line was that if I paid, this was what I could reasonably expect. Sorta like betting on the long-shot at the track; it could happen, but the odds aren't good.

There's also the possibility that some profiles have been created internally; a heavily populated site is more likely to draw new (paying) members. Dating sites have been doing this for years, so as to appear as though those sites are the place to be. "OurTime" is notorious for it. It's only after you pay them that you find out you were suckered in. Dunno if BM does anything like that, or to what degree, but adding profiles to prime the pump is a common thing among site owners.

I've always believed if someone is serious about contacting other folks in BM, they won't limit themselves to paid members. Call me a cynic, but it seems to me anyone who wants to interact w/ others will post some form of contact, be it phone, email, another site where you can contact them...something. In the absence of any contact info, I assume they don't really want to be contacted. True, a paid member can contact anyone--and unpaid members can reply--but unpaid members can't contact anyone (at least not through BM), which limits the interaction for paid members. Call me cheap for not springing for a measly 12.95, but given the relatively poor odds of getting a response... It's about value.

To be fair, BM is a relatively benign site, in terms of the practices many sites use, and I have been contacted by folks in here (and I always respond, if for no other reason than to say, 'thanks, but...'). I do list contact info, so anyone can contact me. But that's just my take, and I'm sure you can talk to paid members who have had considerable success. I'm just not entirely convinced it's primarily because they paid that fee.

Maybe you haven't noticed - BM removes contact info (and web links) from profiles, you have to 'hide' them.

True, if you type in a proper email addy or URL, it'll get removed. I used to think that was meant to encourage folks to pay for a membership, and while there's some element of that, it's also effective at keeping bots from harvesting that info and using it. Fair enough. But most folks have figured out it's easy enough to work around it. Assuming they really want to be contacted.

I'm not suggesting a paid membership is a total waste of $$. Just that for many folks (like me), it really isn't a necessity.

You could be right 'bout that; it just hasn't been my experience. Folks contact me, but never to do anything I would enjoy. Shlepping a hefty rig to do something I'm not all that keen on...seems too much like a job, 'cept w/o the pay. The #1 rule I made for myself in retirement was to have as much fun as possible, and having a job I don't like that doesn't pay anything, well, just doesn't fit in w/ that. I worked at it pretty hard for about 2 years, but this just isn't a good place for what I want to do.

For example, David Sanborn is coming to town, but you'd never know it; there's been virtually no advance notice, no advertising, nada. And this is David freakin' Sanborn--a Tampa native! When I heard about it, it was like they were apologizing for having him here, and they put him well down on the bill (4th of 5). I'mma go, but I gather I'll be sitting alone, while folks go off to get a cola or something.

So I come in here while I'm doing breakfast and hear about what folks in other places are doing, listen to what they post (was checkin' out your posts on youtube), etc. I like to read while I eat.
Jookeyman wrote:BTW - you play that score yet?? got everything taken care of??

Haven't been playing much lately. Been turning the rental unit to get it ready, doing some work on my house, gonna watch the CFP today (my alma mater plays tonite), gettin' ready for my next court session, etc. When I hang out w/ my retired friends, we try to figure out how we got everything done when we were working stiffs. Must be an age thing, dunno.

Speaking of retirement, Jook, I see you're an official RP as of yesterday. Good for you. May your days all be filled w/ the things you want to do--as opposed to the things you don't.

It looks like 80% of profiles created here on bandmix they never come back and check if somebody contacted them.
This site is becoming useless ...
