you know...it doesn't have to be one or the other, right?
life is full of compromises and we're always making decisions and choices about what we're willing to put up to have ________.
but i tell you what...i presently play in three long running band situations, one of 24 yrs, another 10 yrs, and one coming up on 4 yrs.
everyone of them includes top notch players and top notch PEOPLE. am i lucky to be in THREE bands like that? HELL YES!
i know all too well that isn't always the case. sometimes ya gotta suck it up and you have to deal w some putz who's in the band. and on the other side of that too...there were times when i needed the bread and played in groups of great folks...who weren't musically all that happening for a paycheck. compromise.
and that speaks to that point...how much are you willing to deal with and compromise.
my point....don't let anyone tell you it's all about "emotional empathy w bandmates" over the music. or vice versa.
it has to be about both, or you won't stay happy very long.
