i'm not a fan of those Goda-lins. quite quacky and the cpl i tried played awful. no acoustic tone (unlike my nylon string Godin Multiac) and just a terrible feel to 'em. part of the problem is they're flat top instruments (like the Ovation and Applause mandos)....every flat top mando i've played or heard sounded like a little guitar. no wood. no woof.
now, when i'm playing that solid body mando w a single coil magnetic p/u....i don't expect it to sound like an acoustic mando. not what i'm going for. and really that would be like expecting a strat or tele to sound like an acoustic gtr. both my Flatiron and Rigel have K&K piezos in 'em and they have very little quack to 'em. i can plug 'em right into the board or amp w/o needing a preamp to goose the tone. (of course there are times when i do use either a Fishman or Baggs pre to have some more control over EQ and to notch out offending frequencies)Displaced Pianist wrote:I'm freakin' jealous. yeah, but after three sets we have to hightail it out before the authorities show. we try not to push our luck.

it's ALL greek to me! i wonder if that's the double course strings that led you there (Greece). not too far fetched at all you going there.
really what i'm going for is a Tres vibe. (Cubano)
i'd love to pick one of those babies up, but for some reason you just don't find many of them in Mid MO!
GuitarMikeB wrote:I've never played a Godin nylon string. A friend has a Godin steel string that he added a lipstick pickup to, but I don't particularly like the sound. It's halfway acoustic and/or halfway electric, but never fully either. Intonates terribly, too.
jookeyman wrote:Mark- exotic instruments are plentiful (and cheap) on the Internet. I would love to pick a few up myself but I need a new case for the Guild, a new pair of woofers for the Pioneer, an EBow, a double bass, a classical guitar.....................
If you're interested, talk to our buddy. He can tell you if you're getting the real deal.
The Greek inflection? Just the first part of the melody line. Then it drifts off into another place.

On my budget, i'd easily just settle for re cutting the nut and bridge on a cheap acoustic guitar.
Nice elektromandolining PG!
