you're most welcome. i've no doubt that as you said we DO agree on much more than we disagree on".
I am no Jazz musician but I respect those who really are and because of their skill and knowledge and chops can pull off some truly amazing music. I have always felt that music should be manifested from within and Jazz and Rock allows for this. The classical thing is entirely another level I feel and in the opposite direction in some ways. It requires a degree of discipline that most do not have and a spirit of working together, and is definitely more strict. there are good reasons for this and Classical music is in a class all by itself I feel ... when done properly.
yes, i quite agree with that too. the only thing i wish to weigh in on is your comment of "working together". yes, it's true this is paramount for classical musicians to pull off a breathtaking performance.....but one of the many things that draws me to jazz, and impresses me about those who play it well, is how very well jazz musicians must work together and trust one another. being in the moment and "conversing" articulately and saying interesting things in interesting and colorful ways....i'd think that'd really appeal to you as i know you take pleasure from expressing yourself. (no intended cut or slight there.....actually it's meant as a compliment)
To be in Stuttgart and hear an extraordinary Symphony play is one of the high points of my meager life ... knowing their history, the history of the music, the rareness of it all ... was truly inspirational on a nano level ... sound meeting spirit and causing physical and mental and even philosophical reactions. I shall always remember it. I adore David Bowie but he in Concert admittedly is a much different thing but in my opinion it does not hold a candle to what I witnessed in Stuttgart. But that is just me and the way I am wired and we can thank our Ancestors for that. Have a nice Holiday and enjoy your family, friends and of course your music.
yes, that truly must have been amazing and an awe inspiring, life affirming experience you'll carry with you the rest of your day (which i hope are many). Thank you for the sincere well wishes and please know i wish nothing but he same for you and your's.
my wife and i are readying ourselves to bid farewell to Missouri's cold weather for the month of december. we're renting a house on the beach of Anna Maria Island FL and have been quite busy readying our home for some friends who'll be staying here in our absence. we leave tomorrow. i plan on loading the van w my vibes, a gtr, a bass, mando, and an amp. i've already lined up some people to play w while we're down there. even a cpl of gigs! at this point in my life, i know i'd lose whatever tenuous grip i have on what passes for mental health these days if i had to go a month w/o playing music!
i'll likely not be checking in here at BM much....but let me say that's it's very nice taking a break from our usual sparring! please take care of yourself and your wife in the upcoming "holiday season".
