I haven't heard from him since my last reply... Maybe found something more to his likening or change of heart. Don't really know...

One of my sons is recording in a house studio right now so I'm going to check out the quality. if its decent I'm going to book some time and see if i can complete 5 tunes mixed and mastered if nothing else for chits and giggles. But its a new studio and prices are good so what the hell... I may get my roadkill stew after-all. :P

"I have no control whatsoever of what it will be until it's done"

That is exactly how I understand song writing. For me the key is to write it down as fast as I can before it blows away in the breeze...

You hit that nail on the head. I try to get it down as quickly as I can until I can puke it back up on a medium that can recreate it.

You have to watch it though, that pisses people off but mad.

And everyone wants to stick their hands in the fish tank to "pet the pretty goldfish". (I am a "fish petter" as well, but I try to keep it to myself unless someone asks me for "extra petting".. lol)

The only thing worse is when you are left to do what you have to do and come up with something good by yourself. The people you work with tend to become upset very quickly and I still have no idea why that is, the point is that YOU shouldn't really care at all. "It is what it is" and "the proof is in the pudding".

Every douche-bag in the known world wants to write everything by themselves and if you are successful, that's great. If not and you get injected into the works, it's a trap. The end up turning on you like you did something wrong.

To be ok/functional is perfect. To be good is frowned upon. To be truly inspired and productive is met with disbelief and outright loathing if not hatred.

I am a team player and if the team wins, so do I. But human nature is human nature and I am pretty well convinced that some things will never change. So you tread lightly and don't do as well as humanly possible, because it will make them hate your stinking guts like you personally killed their family.

Especially if someone has already cranked out a plethora of average or worse materials. The last thing you want to do is show them up, intentionally or accidentally. They won't forget it and you will receive bad treatment at their hands or worse.

You best have cab fare or your ass will be walking home.

Sorry Jahva, not looking to hijack..just venting like the little forlorn backbiting malcontent that I am...lol

"I've forgotten more music than I've ever written".

I don't care how you do it, but get that material down pronto. That sh*t is the stuff of your next CD release, you just don't know it yet.

The fact that the guy who was going to play with Jahva, bailed makes me a bit on the irritated side because it seems like such a waste.

If you can't remember the song without writing it down, it ain't worth remembering.

Go Jahva I like 4 letter words, all kinds. :)

Scott hi-jack away. I find a lot of inspiration on these threads. I'm not into all of the political crap here but when people talk music and their experiences its well worth the price of admission.

As for no Reply guy... Means little to me. I've learned to work alone over the past 3 years... I'm motivated to keep on doing what I'm doing. I just want better quality recordings. Either studio time or invest in better equipment... So I'm plotting and planning it out.

There's "no reply guy"s everywhere, it seems. Art, the guy I was playing with back in September. A guy who contacted me a few weeks ago and said he'd be in touch after Thanksgiving.
I've decided I'm not chasing these guys down - if they don't contact me back, f*ck 'em, it's not worth the effort. Maybe they don't like my song list (there's over 200 songs on it, surely they must like/know some of them). They've already 'pre-audtioned' me with my RN and youtube sites, so there shouldnt' be any surprises - my CL ad is pretty specific on what I'm looking for. Maybe they are just wannabes and chicken out.
Latest CL contact, will see how that works. He called me a couple of days ago, we arranged to get together next week. Still waiting for him to send me directions and a list of songs he wants to try out. I'll send him one reminder email, after that ....

It's tough all over.

It makes me rabid that you're working alone, Jahva.
You are pumping out quality materials. THAT ALONE should draw people to you. I know a few people up this way that would appreciate your style, (not too heavy, not too light.) So many dimwits around here (NJ) that think they have something musically worthwhile going on and sadly they are mistaken.

Mike, I don't know why you chase people. I ask 1x and then I am out.
If they have that kind of thing where they need to be reminded or babysat, it too much for me to deal with and I just walk.
Then you have to wonder if they are going to show up when you are to play.
That's wholly unacceptable and shows issues with being responsible.

Lynard, you must have a great memory. I have 5 notebooks worth of material, filled to the gills. I have been using a mini-recorder in conjunction at times and still some of the older stuff is falling away from my fleeting memory.

The point is that you have to do whatever you have to do to remember what it is that you conjured up on the blue moon during the cusp of the intersection of ley lines. Don't let that material go, you'll be sorry.

That takes me to another thread..thus I digress.

Mr Scott I do have a great memory, and I also have notebooks of material, but damn near all of them that are any good, I can do right now.

Went and took a listen Jahva, my 1st thought was Linda Rondstant, till you started singing, sounded like Waddy playing guitar there. With singing I've been trying to sing everything with a twang, sometimes to the point of cartoon voices, I think it helps. I'm not sure if I know what makes a good song, but that one seemed happy and cheerful on a oft sad subject.

Lynard

I envy you your memory. I keep between six and ten tunes rehearsed up where I can play them all the way through (and sometimes even sing them) and I can remember bits of several dozen others but I guess I've smoked too much or drank to much or something.

Disclaimer - when I play with other people I jack that up much higher obviously.

I went to the store yesterday to buy a book on improving my memory and the checkout clerk said, "Mister Talbot - you were in here yesterday and bought this book!" :D

That's one of the qualities I like about your style Lynard... your sense of humor. It comes through in your songs. If it's part of your personality it should come through in your lyrics and vocal style.
Since I've been living in NC I've developed a sort of southern alter in how I speak and what phrases I use... hell even the Southerners find humor in themselves. Even wrote a song called "Country curse". Suppose to be about the stereotyping of the country lyrics but in the end a lot of those old songs came from real life. Funny at times... but honest.

If I don't write it down asap it's gone never to be uttered again. My pockets always have lyrical gibberish written on some receipt or torn piece of paper.
I use my phone sometimes but forget to get back to it. Pen and paper works best for me.
I use to keep myself better organized. But these days I've got piles all around the computer... probably look like a hoarder.

I redid most of the vocals.... sounds better to me now. I can hear more harmony in it then I'm able to do so I'm calling it done.
Thanks for the input guys! 8)

Sounds good, heard the added harmony in the post-lead bridge section (did i suggest that? )

Yeah Mike... I wanted to do something there and also at the end. I'm not a singer so it can be a stretch and a half to put something down but you gave me the nudge to keep trying.... and it turned out ok!
Thanks again! 8)

Nice tune Jahva - I'm liking the backing guitar tone. Took me just a little by surprise in fact. Has just a hint of that sax sound I've always liked in guitar work.

the lead part is a nice separation in sound.

I find it highly annoying that you live just far enough away that I can't slip over and jam!
