Hey I turn 54 this Friday. Most youngsters can't keep up with me, so I sure don't need some old fart whining about having to show up after his day job not knowing the music, or telling me how he won an award in 1977, like that matters now? Old farts are the negative lazy people who think they are something.
First of all they have to be amazing musicians...but after that I want people with energy, a sense of humor, and a thirst for adventure.
The really good musicians are just like that. Curmudgeons stay away!
Jeff, you are lucky to avoid all the posers by doing that. Believe me, the people you want to play with will respect your professionalism. Even if you get fewer calls they should be higher quality prospects. But those folks want to get paid so I find it helps to have a sense of urgency about booking a "goal date" for them to be motivated and ready.
