"Old fart" is an attitude, not an age. I've met plenty of guys younger than me who are old farts. I only act that way on occasion!

Hey I turn 54 this Friday. Most youngsters can't keep up with me, so I sure don't need some old fart whining about having to show up after his day job not knowing the music, or telling me how he won an award in 1977, like that matters now? Old farts are the negative lazy people who think they are something.


First of all they have to be amazing musicians...but after that I want people with energy, a sense of humor, and a thirst for adventure.


The really good musicians are just like that. Curmudgeons stay away!


Jeff, you are lucky to avoid all the posers by doing that. Believe me, the people you want to play with will respect your professionalism. Even if you get fewer calls they should be higher quality prospects. But those folks want to get paid so I find it helps to have a sense of urgency about booking a "goal date" for them to be motivated and ready.

And for the record our last bassist Coke was 52 and kicked ass. Metal is not age but a state of mind. nuff said.

Actually Im at a cross roads with it all myself, Ive auditioned for a couple of working bands and I really cant committ to thier schedules.

Not sure what to do musically anymore, cause in some ways it is a young mans game.

To the poster, its tough to find decent players of any age.

I like Yods idea of showing videos of people in action playing live, it tells the whole story.

Anyway good luck to the original poster, It just takes time and patience.

I assume you are younger so get out where people are playing your style of music live and introduce yourself to active musicians. Bands are breaking up all the time and lots of good players get displaced.

I have been searching for a band. The replies I was getting were from either musicians that can't find a band and want to start one, or posers. I am now asking for any bands interested to please Reply with YouTube vids and a website. So far all I hear are crickets LOL Nothing, nada, zilch! Waiting patiently! I have a link to my bandmix site listed in the ads anything you want to know about me is on there?

Hey Jeff - note that the CL 'anonymous' reply system has been crappy - messages NOT getting through. So if you are using it (and not putting your actual email address in the reply thingie) you may want to add some info in your ad stating that you will reply to all responses within 48 hours - if they don't get a response, try contacting you a different way (like through your reverbnation site, whatever).

I guess it doesn't matter if im #1 in my area on reverb even if its out of 12 bands , I have no vocalist its just the music alone getting that rating. You think people would want to jump on this. But yeah CL is a cesspool and theres only so many musicians in the area meeting the distance and criteria on here. So I doubt im gonna reup for bandmix premium service again, man thats a joke. Sorry for the rant im no noob I've been doing this since 97. Times change and attitudes of musicians get even worse I guess. Either way I got something and im not about to stop.

Reverbnation rankings don't mean squat! If you pay them, they move you up in the numbers, if not, then it seems to be fairly random, but has more to do with how much activity you generate (new fans, etc).

"Since 97" means 16 years of experience. There are plenty of folks here with double that (and more) experience - and its not any easier for us, either.

I don't believe he was trying to be a know it all. He is just relating his experience to Reverberation. I was on there for a while also and was always last in my area profile, no big deal. I only quit because it seemed a waste of time not worth getting all their "offers" Reverberation is filled with phoneys as well as good musicians. Just like on Soundclick, some purchase their ratings from spammers just so they can be #1 (Of what????) .

This place has real musicians that have been there done that and they still keep the music flowing no matter what develops. Most of us are not looking to be stars or even make a lot of money playing music. A lot of us play just because we can.

None of these guys will go out of their way to insult any musician on their musical skills. Quite the contrary, they have a world of experience amongst them and can always offer constructive criticism and advice when you ask for it. (I mean other than calling you stuff like "Old Goat" and the likes. ) But I don't mind because most of these guys are the real deal and I consider them "cyber" friends. Even if some of them look far older that me.

I'm thankful to have lived this long - but also more than a little surprised!

I understand. I thought I wouldn't live to be 20. Then I thought I'd never make 30..... and on it went. Been lucky so far. A while ago a friend and I went over the list of musicians that we have worked with that have died. He and his wife are also on the list now, along with a dozen or more others. Makes you wonder at times.

I agree craigslist sucks, but if FBob says bm is a good place to find musicians I'm going to join, need a bass player. Wanna bet I can jewem down on a premium membership?
