Godwin's law applies especially to inappropriate, inordinate, or hyperbolic comparisons of other situations (or one's opponent) with Nazis.

Godwin's law itself can be abused as a distraction, diversion or even as censorship, fallaciously miscasting an opponent's argument as hyperbole when the comparisons made by the argument are actually appropriate.

That depends on who is using it and how.

Godwin's law works when it is a liberal trying to compare Hitler to a conservative, since Hitler was always a xenophobic fascist and the word "Nazi" is a contraction of National Socialist Party. Yet Godwin's law doesn't work in reverse since it is entirely appropriate to compare a socialist to Hitler, especially if they are moving towards fascism as quickly as Obama (and the entire DNC) is.


Fascism - "a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism".


You could make the case that Obama has no desire for "nationalism" in a uniquely American sense. He seems to want to destroy the Constitution which a President is sworn to defend, whether he likes it or not, because it is the law of the land.

Though there are certainly racists who aren't happy with a black President, to lump all legitimate opposition into that category is, by definition, racist. This strategy comes from Obama and exposes his racism. Again...how does someone sit under the teachings of Jeremiah Wright for 22 years if they aren't in complete agreement with his racist views? How can someone be mentored by a communist like Frank Marshal Davis and not be radically anti-American? How can someone wear a ring that says "There is no god but allah" on his finger since he was a teenager and not be a muslim, even if only sympathetically?


The only surprising thing to me is how many are defiled by this simple "dictator's trick" and unwittingly perpetrate his agenda without stopping to think about the end result.

The father is coming to the U.S. to take his sons body home. The mother is not coming because of the shop lifting warrant out for her. I for one would like to know who paid for the dead sons trip to Russia (for possible training) after all he was on government assistance so how could he pay for that trip. Every prez since reagan- EVERY ONE OF THEM, has further eroded our civil rights, further eroded consumer rights, further eroded environmental protections, further eroded our schools, roads, police (except riot police!), fire, libraries, national parks .. you name it- if it was a benefit to the people, it's been eroded. What has replaced that erosion is nothing short of corporate dominance, abuse, and neglect.

The last Bush administration used 9-11 to utterly destroy a major chunk of all of the above, and obama has continued where he left off, and of course, as part of the status quo, continued the futherance of erosions.

We're at the point where not much is left. We all know it.

I haven't attacked a "person" yet, but have been patient and fair about explaining the ideology behind the surface.

No, Bush proposed a Patriot Act that would expire after 2 years. It could only be extended by vote of Congress.

What did a Democrat controlled Congress do with it? They made it permanent.


We are sitting ducks if we apply the laws of this country to foreign combatants. The Patriot Laws were necessary to root out foreign elements and sleeper cells living in the USA.

But when Bush proposed that, I was on record saying that the first Democrat elected President would abuse those laws for purely political gain. Obama wasn't in office a year before they labeled ALL political opponents as terrorists and stopped calling ANY muslims "terrorists".

Oh no, now it's christians, ex-military, police, "right-wingers" (euphemism for Republic voters).....and they'd like to stick all white-people with that tag by painting us as racists for supporting the Constitution. This Administration has no shame fanning racial and economic stress points to flame.

Yes, I agree we the people are being played but I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation we're in with the current Administration. This is not like anything that has come before. If you truly were watching, you'd agree with that statement.

You throw a lot of blame at obama's feet, and I won't excuse him for anything, but in doing so, you've also aquitted bush of the same, when the reality of it is that he equally abused those policies. Congress had nothing to do with the illegal wiretapping, and both sides were complicit in covering up and ultimately granting immunity to war criminals and corporate criminals alike.

Like I said, I can't defend obama and don't want to, I'd be the first to read the charges at his trial, but I'd also be adamant about reading the same charges to bush, and both their entire administrations too.
