Im on jury duty this month, so far this week I havent been called in, got a gig the end of the month, hope I dont have to do a lock in that weekend, man that would suck.
People Ive talked too, had told me that I might have to just go and sit waiting to get called in, so I splurged and bought a couple of books.
I like rock books, so I picked up Red:Sammy Hager, No Regrets:Ace Frehley, Conversattions on Light and Shade:Jimmy Page.
For some reason I read Red first, to get the dirt on Hager, pretty good read if you like the nitty gritty on Van Halen.
In the evenings Ive been reading the Jimmy Page book, it is totally different than any rock autobiography that I have ever read. It tells no storys of women, drugs, excess that all the other tell alls tell. It sticks strictly to the music. If you are into that kind of thing I would recomend it. Lots of great info on getting sounds in the studio, that sort of thing. Ive probably read bits and pieces of it thru the years thru all of Pages Guitar World interviews, but its in one nice package. Page is my favorite guitarist, and he lives up to it in this book, he is humble in a way about his accomplishments. I dont think he bad mouths any other musicians in the book, which is odd, cause every book like this bad mouths someone.
I wont say anymore about it, but its a great read if you want to read about his ideas and thoughts on making and creating music, one of the best Ive ever read in that regard.
I guess Im saving Ace's book for last, at one time he would have been my favorite guitar player and I still hold his work in high regards, no matter how cheesy or campy you may think his playing is. Im sure it will be funny and Im sure there will be a lot of slamming Gene in that book, so it should be a good read also.
Like I said, Im on jury duty this month, and I bought these books to pass the time, but I may have to get some more books, cause by the time they call me in, I will have read these books!!!!
