I'm thinking of fishing. Not much luck with music right now so I'm dreaming of bluegill, crappie, bass (largeouth, smallmouth, white), redear sunfish, walleye, saugeye, channel cat, green sunfish, whatever bites. Each year I try a few new things, new lures and techniques. I'm planning on working docks and marinas more, getting lures to go under the corners of the docks, both inside and outside corners. I'm planning on buying some very long rods (9 ft +) that I can maneuver around docks, submerged trees. I may step up to larger lb test (6 to 8 lb). I might even start eating the fish that I'm not allergic to.
I observe guys who specialize in marinas and they seldom go hungry. All the years I have fished I have intensely watched successful fishermen. When I trout fished rivers there were guys that did amazing things with nymphs, salmon eggs and worms, yet I became very successful with tiny Dardevles (spoons) and Mepps spinners. I actually had guys follow me and copy me. That was pretty cool!
I haven't used live bait for over 30 years, nothing but lures, mainly Mepps, Dardevles and jigs of various kinds. I fish slow and steady using the lightest line I can get away with and lures that contrast with the background color. Fishing is around the corner and it gets me to not think about stupid sh*t I have no control over. Fish either strike or not. They aren't the evil sons of bitches I've been dealing with lately, so it'll be a welcome break for me when I disappear to a favorite body of water....
