Is this question for me?

Occupation: Creator/Artist

I make things which have no function, beyond how they make people feel and think.

I have a tendency to give away or discard almost everything I make.
This practice doesn't make a lot of money.
I should probably get back into the practice of selling things.
But, I am not a salesman. :P

Mikey, forgive me but what I am trying to understand is "how much have you contributed" to social security through out your career? You claim you have paid into the system so therefore you are entitled to your earnings?
From what I understand is Social Security was first set up as retirement and folks that contributed were only supposed to get back what they had paid into the program! Hopefully you see where I am going with this?

Please understand BROTHER, I understand there are CERTAIN folks that are entitled to "more than they have contributed" I PERSONALLY believe they should be at the very least grateful?

Oh, this is about SS?
I did a couple of things.
The last job lasted about 15 years, working in a small factory. Machine shop and later shipping clerk.
Before that, I worked at the airport, unloading trucks at a shipping company.
Before that, I worked in fast food and other minimum-wage jobs.
Before that I delivered newspapers and got new subscribers.
Before that I mostly mowed lawns and did other jobs people would let me do.
I've pretty much worked nonstop since I could practically walk.

Of course, not all of that paid into the system.
But, if you're implying I've spent my entire life playing videogames and watching TV, that is not the case.

If you're implying that I'm ungrateful for SS, that isn't true either.
I probably appreciate it more than you do, since I have to rely on it now.

If you are trying to say that I should be grateful to YOU, then that is just laughable.
We both know how you feel about all government programs.

The problem is that in 2000, we all paid around 27% (single) tax rate, rich or not.

Now there's so many loopholes and depending on your business, lower tax rates, that the same 300k today would likely be taxed around 17-20%, making his tax payment $60k ish.

My point was that we need everyone to pay an equal percentage. It's always been since the foundation of this country, been the based on the ideal that poor people can't fund a country, but society as a whole can. The rich need to pay more (and not whine about it), because the labors of society in the USA give them the unique opportunity to create that wealth, enjoy that security (while sending their slaves to fight their wars for them), a solid infrastructure (provided by labor), and everything else you claim to cherish. But you can buy a gigantic swath of land, build a mansion, have the luxuries of the time at your fingertips, and live your life to it's fullest. Don't worry, the labor will kep your business running and keep churning out quality work and products, and your poor will enlist and fight to protect your stash and way of life. All you need to do is cough up a little more than everyone else.

Apparently after the wealthiest in the country held a gun to the head of the public and robbed us of $13+ Trillion dollars, and then wasn't even held accountable, they figured why not start whining about having to pay taxes on it, and their other "usual" income.

Again, I say- look at the tax percentages on the wealthy throughout the history of this country. ONLY in the last 35 years has it gone down to astonsihingly low levels, and look at the effect it's had- schools, fire depts, police, judicial system, public lands, roads, prisons, etc.. all in disarray because SOMEONE isn't paying enough for it.

Johny Worker is still at his job.. paying HIS fair share, and struggling to put food on the table..

So here's a few direct questions:

Why shouldn't these guys who have the most cough up what was considered a FAIR percentage for 200+ years??

Why don't/won't/can't they pay even today's lower tax rates on financial transactions that yield profits?

Wouldn't you consider them traitors for threatening to leave the country and claim to seek citizenship elsewhere if the gubmt tries to "take their money"? The very country that enabled them to gain excess wealth?

What do you think about Amazon, Google, and many other corporate giants setting up corporate offices in Luxembourg, where businesses operate tax free, churning all their transactions thru there, and paying ZERO USA taxes on billions in profits?

I'm not understanding this...I'm not aware of tax rates going up, other than the income tax break expiring. I don't believe that will have any effect on 2012 taxes. I'll probably have my CPA do mine in a week or so and will let you know.

Taxes didnt go up, but I think a few bars got moved around. Your income tax bracket may have stayed the same, but this or that exemption may have had their rules or qualifications changed/moved.

I used to qualify for special EIC and CTC exceptions for my daughter's disability, although making the exact same money this year, I didn't qualify, whereas the last few years, I did. Everything I can find says nothing changed, but according to the tax people at intuit, it did.

In the end, I get the exact same CTC allotment as anyone else with a neurotypical child in my income bracket, which means the exceptions/exemptions are now gone, or the bar got moved. Intuit's software doesn't reveal which is the case, only that I do not qualify.

Never trust a politician when they say "middle income tax brackets won't see any increase"
There are ways of "generating more revenue" without raising taxes! Just manipulate the bar and take away tax credits. At the end of the day you are paying more money to the IRS. and I believe we are ALL going to experience this as there is JUST NO WAY AROUND IT given the amount of money this administration is spending!
City governments are notorious for doing the same thing. A mayor will run on the promise of no new taxes. When they get into office they face the realization that more revenue is needed (wink wink) so they raise rates on water & sewer, building permits and every fee they can think of!
Then smile at you after giving it to you up the old "poop shoot". After that they want you to PRAISE them and tell them how "GREAT THOU ARE"
