was recently discussing Guild basses w mike nobody and asked for a pic of his Pilot.

and thought i'd share a pic of my old '67 Starfire.

this might be a good place (this thread) to share gear photos when the need arises.

"better"? well, that's a pretty subjective thing when it comes to comparing gear, no?

i'm not familiar w any Washburn hollow (or semi hollow) body basses. got a pic or link? model name/number?

I do have a Washburn HB35 semihollow gtr from the late 70's when they were still made in Japan...great gtr. you can see it in action here in a short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpFnW9Ay ... e=youtu.be

now, just try to imagine someone GOOD playing it!

..and i have a Washburn Bantam XB-600 6 string bass that is far and away the least expensive bass i own but definitely one of the best.

as for old Guild Starfire basses...they are highly coveted and much sought after. notable users include Jack Casidy (airplane, hot tuna), phil lesh (dead), chris hillman (byrds, burrito bros), hutch hutcherson (bonnie raitt) and a long list of others.

this is the second one i've owned and i can w/o hesitation say that they are total badass instruments.

back in the day bot he and jack casidy played a Guilds that were later heavily modded by Alembic. i mean, we're talking every inch of the body covered in sliders, buttons, and knobs....total "mission control".

that photo looks like lesh is playing one of the newer Jack Casidy signature models made by Epiphone. other than the fact that it's a semi hollow...there's not too much in common w the original Starfires.

you are correct that DeArmond makes a cheaper "import" version of the Starfire.

I play a semi-hollow guitar.
The GIBSON ES339.
Mostly for the neck profile, although the lightness and pickups have me quite enamored.

what year is that/ it looks pretty clean. i can't quite tell, does your have HB's? how's the feedback problems?

It has humbuckers, whatever came in it.

We played a wedding party and the guy gave it to me, great sounding instrument. As far as feedback, no real problems, just control it with the volume knob on the guitar, but even thou we play heavier music live, Ive never had any problems with feedback. The humbuckers in it are smoother than the pu's on my classics.

I still have what I have posted before. I don't have to prove to you I'm good, or imagine it. I have 4 Washburns. Some better than this. Didn't mean to insult YOU. Just because you don't know, doesn't mean they don't exist. Besides, what else does Washburn make (or not make)? I told you they have, and I have one. Any other issues you want to discuss? I will say mine has never had feedback problems. It is mellow and warm. It has range and control. Without a whammy bar, it does get in the dirt and grovel, scream octaves out of range, and rhythms as sweet as any I have.

Planet speaking of P-90s, heres my 72 Goldtop, with a little friend! LOL!

I run a lot of gain on my amps so I dont ever take the gold top to a gig, it just gets too noisy. But its a ballsy sounding guitar, thru my old Sunn with a tube screamer and wah.

feedback problems can be a thing.. I had to stuff towels in my hollow body ES-335 when playing The End Bar in Ft.Walton back in 1983

I had those on a SG and I couldn't keep that whore in tune no matter what I did to it..I finally got rid of it as fast as possible..
