well, by that logic we should be the victors (as if anyone "wins" a war) i mean look how many of you conservatives are always chanting about our country being destroyed and looted.

I never did the mainframe thing other than writing 'glue' routines between systems. You sure have me beat for languages but the ones I have are / were good ones:

C
Clipper (including the OOP version)
Assembler
C++
VB
Delphi (object pascal) (my very favorite)
Java (just a little)

My love for process and generally bossy nature punched me into project management and similiar roles - my current boss calls me "first sergeant" and I find myself working in hardware infrastructure. i run interference for the smart boys. A hell of a thing for a software guy! :D

As to conservatives being assholes. True enough. But liberals too - and even some libertarians (like me). I think the message here is not political but cultural - the country is full of assholes! 8)

I totally omitted Java. I guess I didn't care for it much.

So you're a Delphi lover? I wrote an app using Delphi that at one time was used by 500 insurance agents all over Michigan. I used Borland products exclusively in the 90's, I thought VB sucked, but by the 2000's I was back to the Microsoft tools. I still support the .NET apps we've developed but anything new is done in Ruby on Rails. It's a little goofy to get used to but you can develop new stuff so much quicker than the Microsoft products.

...just like the Metallica song. PaperDog... I thank you for your kijd Post. I thank you for your compliments and most of all for your friendship. Slacker G did mention quite sometime ago that this thread was possibly the longest but I was not certain and had no way of checking ... at least that I was aware of. I had only just learned in fact what a thread was after my wife had to explain it. She has an infinite amount of patience with me and she actually showed me this video on y-tube about the Monk and the Help Desk...it is very amusing if you have not seen it you must certainly check it out. Amazing... I told my wife this morning what you had related and she simply said that she was not at all surprised as "when you give a brieg statement it is always at least 5 pages long".

What part of England are you from or did you live in ? I lived there for 6 years... arrived on the hideous Queen's "Silver Jubilee". They did put on a magnificent display of fireworks however.

You have always held a degree of fascination for me and your manner is unlike any I have encountered. Your intellect (what I know of it) I find impressive and your sense of humour is really quite unique as well. It would be fulfillment to it around a fire, drinking and speaking all through the night with you.

I caution you that England is not at all what it once was ... very similiar to the US in this respect, although I am certain that you are aware of that. I personally would never live there again but I did find it rewarding and enjoyable in the late 70's and early 80's. But alas those times are gone forever now and it has become the epitomy of Orwellian manifestation. It was always having that dangerous undertow of depravity, deception and deciet ... the Vatican, Washington D.C. and the City of London ... all Laws unto themselves and all very dark, very evil places permeated with the looted memories of history. Secretive and insecure within themselves. Seeping knowledge of vast hidden knowledge, uncontrollably and frustratingly unbridled for "them".

Planet Guy ... I thank you for your Post. I agree with you in that there is never any "victory" for humanity found in the destruction of others. But this is the condition of "Man the Animal" ... perhaps a miracle will occur within the passing of one Age into another and somehow mankind will become truly aware and reawakened ... but it's a grim looking forecast at present I fear.

Regarding your remark about "conservative" yes they do indeed chant and rant the same as everyone else who is concerned about their futures and they are not the only ones doing so with respect to the erosion of country, Constitution and Freedom. It has now become all too obvious for everyone else excepting perhaps the NWO Zombies. Radicals and Conservatives all have their place but in this I feel that there is general agreement as opposed to the usual seperate viewpoints.

Now I must tell you that neither I nor my friends or those who know me ...enemies included ... would ever label me as a conservative. Yes I do indeed have some views that are allied with some "conservative' ones but I am far too alternative, radical and idealistic with a large dose of romanticism to ever be a dyed in the wool conservative.

Of course I can see how you might possibly think this at first and without further knowledge so I take it as somewhat of a compliment which in itself will piss off some real conservatives I know. So I thank you for this. I do enjoy your Posts on this Forum as well as your views and thoughts, they are very intelligent and even if I may not always agree with them ... they are refreshing. Ta

When I was but a child, We (My parents,me and brother) stayed in South Hampton for a brief period of time... That's all the England I have experienced directly. I have distant roots somewhere in the north...and that's really all I know. Those roots did include Irish (Grand dad on mothers side) .

Sometime in the next couple of years, I plan to take a sojourn to the UK.

.... The so-called government is making the last preparations for civil war,,,Lynard I am afraid I know nothing about pineapples. Dane ... thanks for the reference ...All Policians are lying scum. There is so very much waffling regarding taxes and it is nothing but robbery and the same as the corporate banksters "discussing" stocks etc. It is a silly and utterly stupid game which should be ignored. Unity on basic issues is not really that difficult between us all. This Forum allows opposing veiws and yet in general after the dust settles most agree on basic issues. Freedom in this country is now an endangered thing ... does anyone disagree with this ? Ta

i disagree. strongly.

freedom is in the same shape now as it was under the reign of both bush's, clinton, carter,... all the way back to nixon.

if you repubs wanna talk about freedom being endangered....look at some of the crap nixon was pulling during his reign. you wanna bellyache about abuses of power????

we survived that....and we'll survive through obama's current and next term too.

Not to mention the Reagan administration's Iran/Contra scandal.

We may survive, but our level of freedom may not, and has not. Since 2001 there has been an accelerated erosion of basic rights and freedoms, like reversal of the Magna Carta and all that. Seems as if people are being, intentionally or not, goaded into a violent fight that will quicken the elimination of even more freedoms.

well i do admit that there are reasons for concern....growing intolerance for gays and non christians.... abortion rights being challenged....religion getting pushed down folks throats in schools and public places w the daily erosion of 'church and state'...folks (w darker skin) being made to show their papers....

which begs the question: where are all the folks who love to compare obama to hitler when that wack job witch of governor in AZ wants mexicans to "show me zee paperssss!" ????

I agree with your concerns, but think those rights and freedoms that apply to all gender preferences, all beliefs or dis-beliefs, all colors and shades of people .... basic freedoms that used to protect all citizens from abuses of power .. are the platform you would need to even approach the more specialized concerns you mention. They are being systematically eroded. Protect the roots if you wish to save the leaves.

Whaaaaa???

Nixon was mild...He confessed without confessing, that he was a cheat... It was harmless... He played dirty tricks on Democrats, like calling voters at 3am , posing as democrats trying get votes.... He bugged hotels. That was no threat to freedom...just a threat t democrats holding an office...and to their privacy. Lets not forget, Nixon pulled us out of Vietnam when democrats not only threw us in that war, but also insisted on keeping us there... (in the name of commerce!) Just ask democrat "Lemme show ya mah scar" Lyndon Johnson, who BTW was a proud Texan...

Freedom was not under any threat under democrat Clinton... But he might undoubtedly be the king of all ethics breakdown... (when he 'lied' about that blow job) . BTW Clinton Started the Balkans conflict and supported Islamic terrorists, who went in to do the dirty work for the US, of ousting puppet Milosovic. Our American Democrat president personally signed the paperwork to get those Islamic fringe groups properly trained to the get the job done...(Its a matter of record) And ya wanna know how he paid for it? He LIED... like an oriental rug... to the democratic party, inciting humanitarian sentiments by using fake words like "Ethnic Cleansing" and 'genocide' to get the money out of their pockets. Dont believe me? Just ask Wesley Clark. and BTW Wesley was running as a democrat... Here's another fact fo ya...He violated international treaties surround the use of depleted uranium in his attacks on the Serbs... Now the Serbs are growing lettuce with eyeballs... Yeah bro, that's Our Democratic leadership at work for us... (and you guy whine about Bush??)

Does anybody remember a lil ol event called 911?? Bush responded accordingly and if i recall, I myself was glued to the TV to see the fireworks in Baghdad... You gonna tell us that you were watching "Dancing with the Stars"? :D.

Anybody with a military background will tell you that invasions aren't an overnight 1 hour show. American public seems to have turned into a bunch of bitchy little girls when they got bored and didn't get to see the fire works . So "The war has to end now...I don't wanna play no more"

Sorry for the rant Planet Guy,, But I think I sense that many of my fellow Americans (The leadership, that is) don't embrace that "Pay for keeps, Play to unequivocally win" mentality when it comes to war.

Regarding loss of freedom... Bwahahahaha! Yep We lost it! I first noticed it when a TSA agent ran his thumb through my butt crack at a check point. I noticed it again, when that guy took an heirloom (a 75 year old silver pen knife) away from an egyptian friend at the airport I dropped him off at... I noticed it when it had to be a public debate in order to persuade a certain financier of Mosques from building on our sacred site in NY. I noticed it when we lost an ICE agent to a bunch of thugs using our US made weapons, and when Eric Holder refused to do the right thing and step down...
Tomorrow, when you wake up...Pick up the phone and dial any Fed agency in DC and ask" Who DO I have to talk to ...to pop the president once in the jaw?"
Then sit back with a cup of coffee and wait... Lemme know how that freedom that you think we aint lost, is working out for ya :)

"Bush responded accordingly" mmmm yeah he ought to have, his response was apparently already planned out back in 1998 by the Neocon "Project For A New American Century" (PNAC) Manifesto, outlining the need to station large amounts of troops in the area around Afganistan and Pakistan to control gas and oil pipelines to Europe ... the main problem with the plan then was how to sell such an expensive idea to the American public. The observation was made that only a Pearl Harbor like event would do the trick. And three years later .... we get the tragedy of 911.
