I turned 55 the other day and feel kinda grey about it. I'm officialy a senior citizen. My head is still 30 but my body is defenitley 55. It Sucks.
The one thing that will break my heart when it goes is my voice. I Love
to sing. I havn't recorded in a while and I feel I need to while I still
have some power and skills. Oh well, life is a bitch then you die.
Just venting. :? [/b]

Don't feel bad. My birthday was last Friday. I gained 5 lbs eating cake and ice cream. I have many types of Arthritis in my body that painfully affect my hands, Septic, Rheumatoid, Ostio to name just a few of them. But I can still pick when I work out the stiffness in my hands. My buddy still sings as well as he did when we used to gig together. He turned 71 last month.

Don't worry, Klug, be happy. :)

It's just a number ... don't mean squat in eternity.

Be proud you lived that long.

Lot of folk don't.

So true, age is just a number, at least in our minds, but you can't fool the body! Focus on the basics: eating right, exercising, quitting bad habits like smoking and drinking and getting enough sleep. Every year I wonder how much longer I will do it, but then another year goes by.

...Klugmo, congratulations. This is a most fantastic time to be living and you are fortunate because you have the maturity and still possess the abilities. Next time you look into the mirror, splash some water on your face and relish every line and wrinkle and take comfort in that you have earned each and every one. Ta

I turned 56 a month ago - get over it! You're only one day older than yesterday.
My wife tells me: you can grow old, just don't grow up.

Klugmo

My Grandma used to grumble every once in a while and tell me: "...Grow Old Gracefully...what a bunch of bull sh*t... Whats so graceful about stumbling around with my arthritus and what not...?" She had a great sense of humor...Actually pulled the 'False teeth at the bottom of the glass' trick on us once... She like to trip people up with her cane... That woman lived to be 102 years old. Her last words to me, as I held her hand..."I'm losing my mind..." She was an artist and painted up to her last days... (We used to tease her and say it was the turpentine that kept her going)... She was a fantastic woman... Humble, With charm and always a wise crack with a smile...

My point ...Be fantastic at 55 , 56, and so on... We cant take any of this sh*t with us... Its hard to dodge the rain with a walker...so embrace the rain :)

BTW Happy Birthday , man... Aint it good to be alive! ;)

Chin up Klugmo,
Every day is a gift so enjoy the ride. I turned 56 in April and the older I get, the better I was. There are a lot of reasons I never should have made it to 56 and yet... here I am. I am thankful for my days in the sunshine. Played out with some new folks this weekend and it felt great!

Les Paul was gigging well into his 80s so he is one of my excellent examples of how to do it right. Trading youth for experience seems fair enough.

well I won't make sentimental statements about aging, cause it sucks getting old.

But, "many happy returns of the day"

I'm also turning 55 and will start receiving a pension next February 1 (provided we all make it past December 21!). I kind of have the same sentiments. My biggest fear is never recording a Legitimate CD before I croak, which could come at any time. I think back on all the great versions of tunes we did over the years and so precious little real studio versions of any of them. Lots of gigs, yeah, but virtually nothing left for posterity. I know I have the talent, voice, instrument ability to do some seriously good recording, but getting everybody into a pro studio is like pulling teeth, especially with the economy being the way it is. There's a gazillion home recording "pros" out there, but I've never heard anything from those recordings that quite matches what a seasoned pro can produce.
Yeah, I'm starting to get nasty symptoms. Every time I have a new, different ache or sensation somewhere it's like "Oh my God, what's that?" I'm going to start taking all the "preventive" tests real soon. We can't get away from death eventually, that's been proven just a few times before. Jimmydanger is exactly right, eating right is crucial to well-being. If you eat sh*t you become sh*t, quicker.

Thanks guys. I have always lived my life hard and on the line.
I am very lucky to be alive. There are stories that would make you
shake your head. My best luck though is finding my wife. She has
taught me the value and pleasure of life. I'm still not her best student
but getting better.

I hitch hiked accross country when I was 16 and worked in a casino for
a few years and that got me off on the wrong foot. I am a surviver but
I tend to learn the hard way.
Thanks again.[/b]

Paul McCartney just turned 70 and he's still jamming! Maybe the voice isn't as strong as it used to be and he's got great back up musicians but he's still at. By those standards you're still a youngster!
