That's the sorriest thing I've seen you post. Congressman Sessions was pointing out the same thing I was. He was asking by what authority does Mr Panneta have to usurp the power of congress and the general will of the people and even worse OUR CONSTITUTION as a basis for All the law of the land. Chris it is time for you to start thinking before you just start talking.
I do plenty of thinking. Thanks.
As I pointed out in MY post, The people of the United States of AMERICA are not to be led by Nato, the UN or any other asshole coalition. Now you go look at that video again.
Dude... You're not getting it.
We can't afford to sit back anymore and act like we're alone on this planet.
If you are going to be a member of a coalition or a joint-force or be a participating member in something such as NATO, then you MUST be a TEAM PLAYER when decisions are made. You can't just make unilateral decisions that go against the will of the committee because your own congress decided it holds all the power. It just won't work.
I mean, have any of you been on a team before? This is basic stuff.
That's what Panneta was trying to point out. There's a big difference between a foreign nation attacking us and the USA joining forces with other countries to try and deal with issues as a team.
If we're attacked, then sure - the President and Congress will determine if we're going to war against whoever attacked us. We're not going to wait for "permission" from ANY entity to defend ourselves. And Panneta said that! What more assurance do you want that we're going to follow the law to protect ourselves?
But that's not what this particular discussion was about.
They were discussion a joint action against a foreign nation - one in which we are only one player among many. A team. We don't get to make unilateral decisions. We SHOULD NOT make unilateral decisions in that situation.
Sessions was attempting to take America's laws and rules for declaring war and say that these laws and rules override EVERYTHING.
But that's just stupid. That's a giant middle finger to the rest of the world that we are trying to work with! It's like setting up for a show and doing sound check and then cranking your amp to 10 and telling the rest of the band, "F*ck you, I'm turning it up as loud as I want, and I don't care what you think; I make my decisions regardless of your input."
You just can't do that...
We're not the only players in this game. I think Sessions needs to be aware of that. No one is saying we're going to bow to NATO if America's interests are threatened.
But we are saying - in a team situation, we need to be team players.
