THINK. For hundreds of thousands of years man has walked and ate what he could while walking: Berries, seeds, fruit, nuts, mushrooms, all manner of animals found from the top of mountains to the bottom of the sea, etc. Until quite recently this food was uncontaminated by chemicals. Is it any wonder that with so many people living a lazy lifestyle and consuming so many things that NEVER has been in our bodies before we have so many people SICK. I recently went through an episode of high blood pressure. Through eating mainly veggies, fruits, eggs, seeds, mushrooms, nuts and limited animal protein AND walking when I have time I have lowered my BP significantly. Now I could drop dead tomorrow, but I realize that you are what you consume and if it's sh*t you consume, well you know what happens. I believe in God who put what we need to survive all around us. If you don't believe in God that's okay. Either way take care of yourself because getting sick SUCKS...

I hear ya Bob... and I hope you 'make' time, religiously for those walks (or other forms of viable exercise... ) I do believe that walks are key to keeping the chemistry in balance. I walk twice a day @25-35 minutes each. I now make it a point to do my grocery errands at a store that is on my route. I feel like a million bucks now for all the walking (Been doing it for almost two years) and I do feel a lot healthier today than I felt back then... I eat salads, veggies, chicken, fish, steak, taters, and even chocalate, High grained Breads and Cereals... Watching my sugar... (I Use Truvia as a sweetner. I stopped drinking sodas (now its once or twice a week I have a can of diet whatever... I dring a lot of Green tea (with Mint) I weighed 250, and now at 230 and descending. (Goal is 190). Balance , Balance, Balance... That's all I can say...

I am lucky enough to have really good water from the aquifer below us. Clean, pure, no iron or lime deposits detected. Definitely none of the chemicals you find in city water. No BPAs from a plastic $1 a bottle crap either. Just an occasional smoke billowing from our wood burning stove, or the bitch of having dial-up web.

Balance ... yes.

The late great Bruce Lee was probably the healthiest corpse in a box.
Though honestly I believe he was murdered by the Triads I don't believe he would have lasted much longer at the rate he was abusing his body.

A more natural life style and diet would be great. But there is not enough land mass for all of us to live well.
Just think how many billions of us live stacked one above the other like so many dominoes, drinking each others toilet water.

I'm surprised we live as well as we do.

Congratulations Bob.
One of my much younger Gung Fu brothers intends to open a training center after the first of the year. We have trained together in many places since he was about 10-12 years old.
He has asked me to join him.
I believe I will. I'm too old and have too much at risk for any more full contact type activities. But I'm fat and have no wind.
Not how I want to live ... or die.

For a man in his 50's ... I don't see any wisdom in this.

I hate to run. I'd much rather box or wrestle for 30 minutes.
Don't really see much " wisdom " in that any more either.

I am interested in the context of running of which you speak.
Care to expound on the subject ?

There was a study in the early 90's that was sponsored by the Olympics, for get where i watched this. be that as it may;
they took surveys to discover what class of working people had the least incidences of heart attack and stroke during their work life
it was discovered that irregardless of diet that Longshoreman suffered less than anyone of these maladies,
because they pushed , pulled and lifted all day,
it was also discovered that if they didn't change their diet, they died relatively shortly after retirement.

I run 7 miles a day 5 days a week, and it makes
me feel great. I don't drink sodapop, and am a
vegatarian. I run cause I can, I'm 52 and have
so many friends that can hardly walk.
Every morning (5 days a week) I get up and run
7 miles, do 100 pushups, 100 situps, 100 jumping
jacks 100 squat thrusts, 1/2 before the run and
1/2 after the run. I literally get high on the run
and it usually lasts till about noon, and then for
dinner I have 1 to 4 glasses of wine. I've been doing
this for about three years. When I got close to 50
I guess I had a midlife crisis, and decided I was going
to get in shape gave up cigarettes, meat, soda pop,
and any form of drugs, illegal or legal. I'll turn 53 next
year and am in better shape than when I was 18 and
in the Army. I never thought I'd be like this, but here
I am, and I feel great. I've heard alot of people say
it is hard on your knees and ankles, but alot of these
running doctors on the internet say it is good for your
joints. I love it and plan on running the rest of my life,
good Lord willing.

I'm 51, and accepted the fact that a third of my life is over. I am a professional driver that puts his feet to the ground and hands on the cargo. I'm trustworthy and can handle anything, I think. Some people run for free. I don't mind getting paid for it. Run, Run, run until the scanner poops another reason your using your air time calling for technical support and someone to say we know the problem, so you can move on now. Run, run, run... POOP! I delivered 65 stops my last day. Got paid for 33, and that's not counting 10 stops you can't get a signature for. That took 9 hours. I wasn't around for the depression, but save me the speech. I was born decades later, but I do remember a loaf of bread being 8 cents at a convenience store. It is now a dollar. How much running can you do on 33 loaves of bread? I'm not fat, I'm really pretty trim with the exception that I look fat because my stomach is distended from eating beans. When it costs you more to work than not, there must be another approach.
