Sans perhaps this will help:
1. Your lower end foriegn built guitars, can be bought
down on Harry Hines Blvd in Dallas, they sell electric
and acoustic guitars, amps and all kinds of accessories.
I use to buy acousyic guitars for as low as about 10 dollars,
and electric guitar and amp combos for as low as 35 or 40
dollars. Shop several of the wholesalers before you buy, cause
the guy your buying from my just be going down the street
a couple of blocks to get his restock, and that's where you
need to be buying. If you go to Houston down on Harwin Drive,
you usually will find lower prices and bigger selection.
2. St Louis Music Company is a big wholesaler of high end
music gear of all kinds, I think they're a little high on a lot
of their stuff , but I use to purchase some from them.
3. Musicians Friend has a big store in Kansas City, and
I bought a lot of new guitars and equipment, out of their
damaged and returned goods section, just got to look them
over good, ther's a lot of good stuff in there, I think they
have some more of these stores located around the US.
4. I made more money on used equipment than I ever did
on new equipment. Search Craigslist, pawnshops, auctions,
garage sales, anywhere people are selling gear.
%. Someone said to add other services, to me they're right
and they're wrong. I added other services, but I didn't have
time to give lessons, and string up guitars, and work on equipment,
so you sub all this work out and make a commission on it, this
way you offer all the services, and make the money on them ,
while you act as a facilitator (go-between). e.g. guy brings his guitar
in for some work, he leaves it with you, you tell him my
guitar repairman is averaging a week turn around time,
check back in a couple of days and I'll tell you where he's at
on your guitar.
6. Lowball everyone, I got to the point when I went to Wal-Mart,
and they'd say that'll be $101.50, I would say will you take
a hundred, you'd be surprised how many checkout clerks
would. I lowballed everywhere, the buyer starts low the
seller starts high.
I could write more but you will have to find your own way.
Good Luck
It's a good day to die
