That's not even remotely close to what I said... Sigh. It's like you're picking a fight for no good reason. I don't see the sense in it, really.
I'll agree - you can't have "good" without "bad".
But the problem here is that "good" and "bad" are subjective. We're talking about an opinion. And there's no right or wrong when we're discussing opinions on "art".
You might not like New Kids on the Block. I might not like New Kids on the Block. But legions of teens did. No one is "right" about their opinion. It's just an opinion.
When you say someone "sucks" I am going to look for evidence of that. If we're talking about a musician, then I expect "suck" to mean they cannot play their instrument or they cannot sing (William Hung, for example).
Nickleback, while being a band you might not like, clearly can play their instruments and sing. There's nothing wrong with their talent. So by definition (to me) they cannot "suck".
I guess my deal is that I prefer to be explicit with the English language. If you're going to complain about Nickelback, be specific. If you feel like their songs are too similar and repetitive, I can respect that opinion. If you feel like they're lyrics are immature I can respect that opinion.
But if you're just going to say "they suck" - I can't respect that. It's simply not true. They can play and play well.
And as far as negative energy goes - listen - maybe you're not there yet in your life, but I have reached a point where negative energy just isn't something I want to cultivate into my life. There's a lot of music I don't care for. But spouting off what I dislike on message boards is only creating *nagative* energy. There's absolutely NOTHING POSITIVE from saying "Nickelback Sucks". Nothing.
Our world already has enough negative energy going on. I prefer to spend my time talking about what's positive. I'd rather talk about a new artist I love instead of talking about an artist I dislike.
