A city can't have an attitude. Only individuals can. And to imply that "all of *fill in the blank* people are *fill in the blank* is prejudice.
Prejudiced? Really?

Then how come the real experts out there reference any collection of people as a 'group' and then assign adverbs an adjectives to their behaviors such as "Group think", or 'Gang mentality". When you have a collective body of sports fans, all hating the same thing for the same reason, and they represent themselves as "Detroit" , we now have a collection set, called a group, representing itself as a city, which in fact carries an attitude. ( For the sake of communication....) BTW, when I reference my car, I refer to "her" as "She eats the 40mph curve at 65+ mph" We both know that cars aren't gender specific, and they sure as hell cant 'eat curves'
Detroit has a ton of music not just the awesome motown. I mean even madonna who you cited has had a HUGE career. Even if "ray of light" was her last big thing that's still a LONG run. And since when does commercial success dictate valid or even good?
I do not disagree that Detroit has tons of music..other than Motown...
There is correlation with "valid, good" and Commercial success. Specifically, if one is that good, there is usually a compelling case and consensus to share the music with the world, by the world.
All commercial music is 'pushed' through... but not all commercial music offers compelling justification... In that case, you have promoters who artificially hype up the lemons...
Motown had its share of that..but they also really did have compelling music (brilliant I might add)
Grand Funk (Even by Mark Farner's own admission) was always hyped up ... Its the only way they could survive in the industry... They had to get pushed by the dealer... In his case, he really was an excellent, down-right awesome guitarist with real heart for what he did. "Were an American band" rocked (and you'll notice he didn't say they were a "Detroit" band" )
It all comes back to this... Detroit sports fans should not be so arrogant...While Detroit contributes a lot to the music scene... it aint good enough (in my book) to warrant being assholes to others about it.
I cant say it any other way...
