I know how easy it is to slam the 80s, and why. People, ya got to remember that the 80's was the heyday of the Alesis 16 track using ADAT which I still think was the greatest biggest and warmest sounding production media EVER. I HATE ALL THIS PRO TOOLS / DAW CRAP. My songs were recorded on a 40gb (nothing compared to the GB's they have now) Korg Digital Home Studio. I did not CUT AND PASTE a great chorus c'os that's for those who may not have much of a budget and need to get it done ASAP - HOWEVER, I had all the time in the world working ALONE and I performed what they refer to in the recording chain as rollovers - these are the digital replacement of actually physically cutting the quarter inch tape to splice in a mistake made by a badly rehearsed band member. I put in a 5 second "intro" into the goof, which means you are telling your hard drive to auto record 5 seconds over the goof, then I set the rollout to 5 seconds to keep things nice and tidy. I COULD HAVE CUT AND PASTED BUT IT SOUNDS SO STERILE. If you can't hack re-recording a bad take by doing a rollover, well buster, yer in the wrong business. The 80's did produce a lot of one hit wonders, but it set the stage for the 90s Grunge Movement. It also produced The Clash, The Eagles Hell Freezes Over, Missing Persons first album, SAGA - remember SAGA? "ON THE LOOSE TONIGHT" AND THEIR BRILLIANT SECOND ALBUM featuring I'M THE FLYER. 80s made the first great techo stuff, like ULTRAVOX'S CLASSIC "VIENNA" ALBUM. I wasn't big on DEVO or THE B52s but they were, well, original. And while all the silly New Wave bands were busy making their hair VERY BIG, Dave Mustaine got kicked out of Metallica and formed Megadeth. The 80s was actually a VERY OPEN FORUM. I recall the FM station I was listening to at the time was playing the most liberal set list now gone forever, because DJ's on the radio had their power to play what they thought was great FM Rock stripped from them by Wall Streets CORPORATE AMERICA AROUND 1986. The scum who swooped in like the cretins from SONY, mainly the Japanese Big Corporate, they came in and handed a set format to radio DJs basically saying "This Demographics. We number crunch. This set list works. You now play the same songs everyday at the same time of day - forever. SCREW THEM. IN MY MIND I AM ROCK N' ROLL TRUMP, TAKING BACK THE RADIO STATIONS AND GIVING DJS THE POWER THEY ONCE HAD. SONY AND THE REST OF YOU BOTTOM DWELLERS, GET OUTTA TOWN BEFORE SUNDOWN OR ELSE...................
