In my list of "Most Wanted"! I'd rather have a 427 Rat,Backed with a 400 turbo And of course Posi. Or, the same drive train with a 302 small block 375hp! Love the lines and size of that body. 8)

Sorry, dude, but there's History in the ci's with that engine. After the 396 there was the 400ci, which was only a larger factory bore of the 396, which was developed to show development in a year there was none. Trouble was they were punched incorrectly and ended up cylinder walls egg shaped, not round. Good engine if you wanted to re-bore it yourself.

No need to apologize ... you were absolutely correct.

I take no issue with correction of factual information.

I actually appreciate the fact your were paying that much attention to the subject.

Hey Sans, me again. I just spent the last 2 hours with my son on the internet looking up ci's vs. hp rating. I could encourage you to do the same.No matter to me, but I just wanted to give you the short story of what I had, which was no problem with take off. '68 Impala, factory with a 396. Blown rings, I replaced it with a small block--- a 302 Z28 (w/ camel hump 202s). That engine produced more horse power than Any other Production line engine. The ultimate sleeper engine ,yet it still bolted to a 400 Turbo trany, (didn't know until I tried it), with the rest of the drive train which was built for the 396, which was the 12 bolt Posi rear-end. The Only problem I had with take off was going back to the take off site to pick up my exhaust pipes.

Friend of mine in the 70's had a stock Camaro ( best I remember was 67? )

It came with that little 302 ( again, best I remember ) he had it bored to 360.

That thing was nigh on impossible to control out of the hole.

Squirrel'y as a rail ...

'67s didn't come with 302s stock. May have had one in replacement . Typically, any engine worth boring and rebuild would take as much as .030. I 'm thinking that a 327 bored .023 would make a 360. Don't think I would bore a 302 to a 360. it makes the cylinder walls "negligent to cracks or even explosion. That was a major problem with 351 Clevelands (Ford), why they didn't last past their first run. 351 Windsors on the other hand had more space (metal) between cylinder walls, making it a much more rebuildable engine- thank you Canada. Put Cleveland heads on a Windsor, drop it back into your "69 Mach, and you have a new machine. 327s were an extremely adaptable engine you could get configured lots of ways factory, due to the fact they used them in Corvetts also. From 275 dogs (completely stock) or custom with again- 202(Camel hump) fuel injected heads. Making it a quarter mile contender. Usually, the 327s didn't come with the 400 turbo trns, or the posi rear end. that combination was rare, people didn't know it could be done. 400 turbos were stock behind big blocks. typically, the 302s, 327s,350s came with 350 turbo or 2spd powerglide, or 3 or 4spd manual on order.

A few notes not common knowledge about the 2speed power-glide. I could almost bet you've driven a vehicle with that trans in it before Overdrive was a thing. A very hearty trans. that I had in my '67 Camaro 327ci combo. Actually my second car, but my first on the road. "Yenco" took that setup and made an after market speedster, much like Carol Shelby did for the Mustang but, a Shelby was at the very least identified with the blind spot window which was very effective in round track racing. Yenco's approach was Different in these muscle car years in which they built the ultimate sleeper. Showing no outward body alts, everything was under the hood. even down to the factory hubcaps. The only noetables that it was a Yenco was on the title and race-ability. That said, it was STILL not producing the HPs Per CIs That the 302 z28 engine came with, OFF THE PRODUCTION LINE. Oh yeah, the 2spd trans. was produced for WWII tanks, for whic each received 2 of. Thruogh the "70s in was a favorite with quarter milers such as Don Garlits In Top Fuel DragSters. 8)

I do remember Steve's Camaro having a four speed standard.
I also remember him basically having to bribe the shop to overbore his block due to the cracking issue.

But man I'll tell you ... that was a whole nother life time ago.

Facts bez foggy ya know.
