Hi JW Thanks for taking the time to give my new stuff a listen. It means so much to me to receive some perspective from a true veteran of performance.
Hehe guess what? .... The amp tone your hearing is from a Peavey Valve King:
Best
All Tube Combo Amp I have found for under
$500. its 100ww with A / AB type switching.
The approach with our songs, like you said, has that dynamic from clean to hard is correct. I have noticed that bands, especially Nirvana does this. But we tend to take a slightly different way of making that switch.... Instead of just stomping on a pedal..... we try to "set up the listener" to anticipate that switch. I think we accomplish this by
changing time signatures, utilizing key sig switches and tempo. The intro to Final Stand starts from soft 4/4 > soft 5/4 > Hard 4/4. Also key signatures using
cadences (Dominant 5 chords or Dim 7ths to Root), we also use double time. Soundgarden/Tool/Sevendust are good examples of a bands that employ these techniques I'm trying to describe. I think doing this makes the
"hook" or chorus more potent and recognizable.
As for the singer, Jon, has great potential. He's very young (21) and when he sings covers, sounds right on. As for originals..... he has trouble. This is because his melodies are not established yet. I'm thinking the best thing for us is to do is
go over his melodies with a piano, transcribe them Jon can practice note for note.
Again thanks for the input JW
