I think I'm the only regular poster on here who comes close to fitting the bill... the rest of you have way too much experience.

I have one question, though. You're looking for a band... Who's got a 3-5 song demo for you... that has never played a gig? What?

Demo can be anything...from a boombox cassette recorded in a bathroom...to whatever...though I think most younger musicians have easy access to computers and/or recorders. I'm not looking for anything polished. I think you'll find a lot of young bands have myspace pages with songs up long before they ever play a gig.

Huh. Well then, good luck with your project.

On another note...I am also starting to look for a minimum of three heavy metal tunes for a horror film we're shooting in very early Spring. Something fast, headbanging, almost speed metal-ish. Need non-exclusive rights only. And there'll be some pay. The only pre-requisite this time is that you control publishing and sync rights to the song(s).

You can watch trailers here: www.ONSmovie.com But be warned both are NOT SAFE FOR WORK. (Like really NOT safe for work.)

As before, please send a cd of song(s) to:

What Were We Thinking Films, Inc.
PO Box 6260
Hamden, CT 06517
ATTN: ONS

Please pass this along to anyone who might fit the bill. Thanks!

I'll pass it on when you pay me for it, seeing as how finding people is apparently YOUR job.

The rest of that I simply didn't understand...could you speak a little slower?

I could debate the finer points of your last statement-but there aren't any.

You're an idiot.

According to you, we are all over the hill bullies who act like 5-year olds.
We're the rude ones?
Like I said before, a real professional wouldn't have wasted his time trading insults. And you've proven my point.

Spam.

Gorman I have to apologize for my behavior on this post. I admit that I am a bit thin skinned right now from my current situation that's been drawn out for several years now, and over reacted.
I should have just told you that this was the wrong forum and that it would rub a lot of people on here the wrong way.
My bad!
I think I can speak for many of us here that do original material on the fact that we're on here somewhat regularly probably means that we're not as busy with our music as we want to be, and that alone is frustrating. So when something that can be taken as an insult gets posted, it usually draws a pretty harsh reaction, whether they are aware of that or not.

I'm still not in favor of your production but that's your business not mine.
So maybe next time read your post over a few times before submitting em, and I'll try not to go militant on ya again.

Best of Luck

Not me, I stand by my response. If you don't already know of bands for your documentary I would suggest changing the theme.

Well, thank you, Hayden...

I was actually just trying to use economy of words in writing the post, and meant nothing negative, except perhaps with the phrase "posers" but by that I meant simply people who spend an hour in front of the mirror getting their hair just right before going out, or people who wear uniforms, which has been so glorified in the younger rock movement by the emo bands.

And when I said I was just starting to look, that is the truth...I don't even know if this is a movie I will make. (Next up is the horror flick, and then a doc on pizza.) I don't even know if the sort of band I'm looking for even exists at this point, or if things like MySpace have destroyed all of that.

I believed (and still do, to be honest) that any board read by musicians would be a gateway to potentially finding what I'm looking for. That even if younger players didn't read the board (and I'll bet you actually have a lot more younger lurkers than you think here), people who posted would know of some, a younger brother perhaps, the kid next door, whomever. And hopefully pass the info on.

Though I have a small company, with everyone assigned very specific tasks, finding music is nothing I would ever delegate. It's one of the best parts of my job. And perhaps I can't even explain perfectly what I'm looking for for this doc (saying "The Replacements in 1980" is as close as I can come), I just know that when I hear it, I'll be awash with goosebumps. And if I don't find it exactly right, I move on to something else. But it at least seems an avenue worth exploring. (You can spend two to four years or more on a film from inception until the end of it's film fest run and ancillary release...so for me to do any film, I need to LOVE the subject, and my musical taste are pretty damn specific. For a film like this. I need to find music that shakes the very core of my being.)

If any of that makes sense.

That looked more like gore porn than a movie.

Teasers are meant to...well...tease.

It's a pretty twisted script...

I didn't really check out trailer 1 because it really was like stepping into the middle of a soft porn scene.
I looked at trailer 2:
The actress is talented. Cinematography is good. Lighting is ok. I would prefer to see more emphasis on the voice with a much more non linear scoring and some very tight close ups.
Overall I liked the scene. It has a lot of atmosphere.

Funny thing, the second one was never planned. I had never shot with the Red One camera before, so after we finished shooting the second half of the first trailer (the first part with the girls is intentionally suppose to look bad, as if it were shot by small hidden video cams...his character runs a voyeuristic porn site), we had a lot of time left...

Now I've worked with Lynn before (she was in FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS), and I knew she could learn lines at the snap of a finger, so there's an 8 page monologue in the film, I asked if she wanted to shoot the last two pages for another trailer...and she learned it on the spot.

So we shot three different takes from three different angles, and put it together.

There is a no-nudity version of the first trailer on YouTube if you're interested...it's really the slo-mo shot of Lynn in the second half that rocks. Get to the 25 second mark, where Lynn starts...

But thank you for watching...and for the comments...

A documentary following a young band of squatters would be entertaining. We have a lot of them in the West/East Oakland area. There's a big Punk movement over there. I'm sure if you Google "Oakland Punks" you could find some people who would be glad to take part in your film. :)

Thanks for that. I'm actually headed to Oakland soon for an interview with a pretty well known Mats fan. I'll check into it.

Actually, I would be very, very interested in watching this.
