Sunday, June 20, 2010 - Jeff Beck at The Fillmore Detroit. Jeff was in great form, doing most of the tracks off from his new album. The oldest song he played was "Led Boots" from "Wired". His version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was beautiful. He also did versions "A Day In The Life", "Rolling and Tumbling", "I Wanna Take You Higher", "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "People Get Ready" that brought the house down. After playing a bunch of white Strats the roadie brought out a black Les Paul and you could her a gasp from the mostly musician audience. He proceeded to play a Les Paul song in honor of the inventor of the modern electric guitar. He did three songs for an encore, with "Nessun Dorma" from Puccini's opera "La Traviota" the final song. Amazing show as always by God's Guitarist.

Add me to the Green With Envy list!

Thanks for sharing Jimmy!

I would have loved to see him playing a Paul. They have this thing on the Les Paul forums where they blast him for having a sig LP. But some of his most popular music was using a LP.

Anyway thanks once again!

I'd love to see him. I'll bet it was great, jimmy.

LOL When I saw the thread title I thought you were saying the 'two turntables & a microphone' guy was dead.

Nah, for me the name Jeff Beck alone does it.

I'd love to see Jeff Beck again. I saw him during the Guitar Shop tour with Stevie Ray Vaughn. Of course it wasn't called the Guitar Shop tour. It was called The Battle Of The Blues tour.

When the concert was over, I knew other people who went and they asked me who I liked better. When Jeff Beck came out of my mouth, you would have thought I said Bin Laden. Haha. People gave me soooo much sh*t for it. But I still stand behind it. He was absolutely incredible that night, not to mention Terry Bozzio was his drummer for the show.

I've gotta say that the reason I liked Jeff Beck better than SRV that night was that Beck displayed so many different moods during his show going back from his old days to his modern Guitar Shop album, and every song was just so different.

Of all of the guitar players I've ever seen live, Jeff Beck can make a high note soar throughout a whole stadium like no other. He has great control with individual notation and sustain. Where most people want to hit a note and bend it hard, he likes to hold and vibrato. I'm pretty sure Steve Vai used to practice his whammy work by listening to Beck as well. I thought I read then in an interview with him a long time ago.

"Cause we Ended As Lovers" would be a good example of Jeff Beck's ability of Phrasing.
