I,m saving myself for the studio.

I have owned a Takamine acoustic for years and the sound is pretty good, but I bought my son a Takamine with a cedar top and paid about half of what I paid for mine and that thing sounds freakin awsome I am beginning to really prefer cedar over spruce. What about you guys, which do you prefer?

The most beautiful sounding guitar I ever played was a friend's cedar-topped Taylor. It has the warmest sound, yet still has wonderful highs. It's indescribable.

Best acoustic I ever owned, was a $1600 (got it for $1200) Tacoma Acoustic with pear inlay. I loved it because it was beautifully crafted, smooth as butter to play, and had the warm full rich sound I was looking for, as opposed to Taylors, which are always well made, but usually very bright in tone. This thing was DEEP, WARM and RICH!

Cedar every time. Never played one till I got my Takamine, didn't know it was ceder but knew it sounded fantastic, so I bought it. Found out later it has a cedar top and it's great. Since I got it I've played a few other cedar tops, all sounded really nice.

As far as gear goes, I recently got a Behringer pedal tuner and fixed the black no-name telecaster, nut broke and I replaced it, and adjusted the pickups a bit so it sounds great now. Plays good too. I did the nut myself, first one I've done. Was going to let a local tech do the nut slots but he handed me his nut files and told me it was time to bite the bullet and give it a try. It went well, the guitar plays great now. A while back I replaced the neck pickup with one out of a Peavey T60, didn't get a chance to really play it onstage before the nut broke, it sounded great a couple of weeks ago when I used it a lot onstage one night. Loads better than it sounded with the POS neck pickup it had before.

This geetar - Originally had a white pickguard and standard size chrome neck pickup. Now it has two thin white racing stripes angled across just above the bridge.

Well, I gotta share this with you guys.
About ten years ago, I bought a new Yamaha FG-461S acoustic guitar. I'm not sure why I bought this particular guitar, at the time it looked good(gold tuners,really nice looking binding). I also realized, it had mostly a mid sound to it.

I dabble somewhat with luthier repairs, also have built an acoustic guitar, and acoustic upright bass.
About two years ago, I suddenly realized how delusioned I was with the sound of this guitar. The best way, I can describe it, Not much "Bass", and somewhat, subdued/ constipated.
I decided to attempt to parabolically shave the bracing. I removed approximately, 1/2 of a coffee can, of shaving.
Since then, this guitar is AWSOME !!!!! It has really Bloomed/Blossomed. It has Bass up the yangyoo, the acoustic volume, has increased three-fold. I LOVE this guitar !!!!

Speaking of cedar...I have a Seagull 12 string that's solid cedar. Cool guitar but no pickup or tuner on board so it's a pain to use live. But sounds damned good. Years later I bought my Takamine 12 string with all the on-board electronics.

I've played on some Seagulls in the music store. Really nice guitars. Couldn't afford one of those right now though.

I'm totally jealous of being able to take a guitar apart and rework it, like you guys do! I've never had anyone show me stuff like that, and I don't trust myself to not f*ck up a guitar trying, without being with someone who knows what the hell they're doing, right there watching me.

LOL

Wish I had the knowledge to tinker with them though!
