I just heard on TV that they're doing 70 limb amputations a day in Haiti!!!!!!

Those poor ppl, from the poorest country in the west, are going through a hell I cannot even imagine.

My thoughts are going out to them in thier hour of need, & I pray that thier trials are over soon, & that they can get the help that they so desperately need.

Nothing other than bloody awful. I cannot see them recovering from it either.

Why are they amputating so much?

Jesus, I hope it's not something like "his leg is caught in the rubble and we can't get him free, oh well cut it off".

I'd be like, "just leave me here".

I heard they are using hack saws.

I am guessing god wasn't very happy with Haiti this year.

God only gets credit if it's something good. If it's something bad, blame nature or "free will".

The Pat Robertsons of the world are all too happy to blame some purpose of the "gods" for the ordinary processes of nature, but as the Bible states...

Matthew 5:43-48
43) "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44) But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45) that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46) If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47) And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48- Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Weather is just weather.

The Bible agrees with that view.

Compassion and prayers are certainly in order.

Reports are, that over 70,000 bodies have been recovered... so-far, but estimates are, that as many as 200,000 may have been killed.

Haiti is an exceedingly poor country, which has been a victim of warlords and unscrupulous politicians, but their problems go back MUCH further than that!

Haiti was a wellspring of natural resources, and the money that those resources brought into the country, but... Haitians were used as slave labor by imperialistic countries, including America, still a slave country at the time.

The Haitian slaves rebelled, rose up against their slave masters, and fought back, gaining their freedom after a bloody struggle that bought them independence. After this victory however, as PUNISHMENT for this rebellion, these large and wealthy nations prohibited anyone from trading with them, so that their resources could not be SOLD or even TRADED for the medical supplies, building materials, modern advancements, and other things that would have brought money and technology into the country.

In other words... Being pissed off about slaves gaining their freedom, more wealthy countries KEPT HAITI POOR AND DESTITUTE for many, many years.

Now, understandable, they have a hard time TRUSTING white people, or people from wealthy nations. They remember their history, and perhaps... it is only a matter of time, before some nation comes to enslave them again?

This is why war lords thrive there, and why the people won't always just "let in" military with medical supplies and food, without fear and concern.

It's really sad.

I keep seeing the ads for "Text blah blah blah" so you can donate $10 to Haiti help.

I'd rather hop on a plane and go there myself and lend an actual hand. I wish I had medical skills...

"e causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."

Craig, you are wise to bring up that portion of scripture.
My wife and I have used that one quite a bit in recent years..

I'd like to hop on a plane too.
This Haiti thing has really affected me - more so than any other disaster in recent years.
I cant put my finger on why it has, but it just has.

I have medical skills. And I would go as well. But not to the determent of my own family's financial welfare. Does that make me selfish?
Crush injury often require amputation, especially where there is no real trauma surgical ability such as exists in this emergency.
I pray for the people of Haiti. But you must realize we are already helping them.
We are contributing even if we are not there personally.
I have to wonder, though it is irrelevant from a humanitarian stand point.
If the table were turned, would we get help?
