I need one with anti rumblers on it and a vapour/breath guard to stop hisses and breath points. What are my options please?

Neumann's are pretty good, not cheap though ($1800-2500).

The funny thing is, you can spend thousands on a mic and then thousands more on effects to make it sound like $5 mic!

If you get a Neumann or a Blue you will need something like this to go with them.

Fanks guys. You know what? I'll prob stick with the market bought 5 dollar mic.

Just a signal, and after all it's the song that matters isn't it?

All parts reflect the sum, go with a SM58.

I just bought a large condenser mike from Musicians Friend for $199.00 it is a
MXL 4000. I LOVE it. I just recorded my first vocal with it.
Now, mind you, I can't sing. But the mike is KILLER. I have about 8 different kinds of Mikes, and this is hands down the best I have heard for home studio recording. Not only that, but you also get a $125.00 (Alice In Wonderland mfr list) pencil mike along with it for free. Here is a link to my recording . I was about 8 inches from the mike. No compressor or gate. Just me screeching into it. Screeching in a low voice at that!

What's your budget for this mic Chippy.

They are all over the map.

Jimmy is right, that Neumans are among the best vocal mics out there, and his figures are low even. You can pay $3,000 to $5,000 dollars for the top of the lin Neumans.

You can also find a decent condensor mic for $250 or so.

Wotcha Craig thanks.
Not that much frankly. This one goes for about $65.

I take it then this sort of mic isn't really needed? I don't have the best setup really, working on it of course.
Thanks again Craig.

$65 is not alot to work with. :(

Do you gig? Plan to gig?

You may consider a standard industry workhorse mic, like those that retail for $99 or so, and they are built to be multi-functional, as well as sturdy, and can be used successfully for shows, but also decent home recordings too.

Shure SM57 or SM58 for example.

Try this article out, which may be helpful:

TweakHeadz btw... is an EXCEPTIONAL site for understanding electronic instruments, synths, home recording, looping, whatever!!!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SITE!

Going with something cheap. I don't even know if I can cut it? Just a voice anyway or in my case a guide vocal.

Thanks
