well, from what I here, the music industry isent just about how well you play or where youve played, or about your equipment, im being told that its about who you know, so my question is, WHO ARE THE BIG GUYS???? who are the guys I should be talking to and getting to know better?? open for suggestions

Yes knowing somebody is a good thing but if you can't play WELL knowing somebody isn't going to do too much good. I really can't tell you who the big guys are. I'd rather play with good local people who I trust as friends. Be wary, I hear the big guys will just use you for their own gains...

I don't think I ever met one of the "big guys" & if I did I prolly said something stupid...

You need to be where the action is... NYC, Nashville, etc...

You've already shared with us, that you have the talent.

And you are right, it is almost always WHO YOU KNOW that gets the doors open. They have to come to KNOW you, and you do that by KNOCKING ON DOORS... and LITERALLY SO!

When they associate a face and personality and REAL handshake, with your music, then it separates you from the lazy masses, that much more quickly.

You come across as someone really serious, about following your dream.

I am not joking in the least, when I tell you, that had I done that when I was still in my 20's, I would have been a very wealthy superstar by now.

But I was always caught up.. in the MOMENT.

No real plan for music, or success in it.

There was always tomorrow... Until you realize that your "tomorrows" are getting closer to running out.

Seriously, though, you might wanna try hooking up with the agent that booked you there in the 1st place, cuz it would seem that you already have an "in!"

Sure it's about who you know, but that WHO has a lot of HO's humping their leg all day long.

The key is standing out from everyone else. First, you need to know what you are up against - know thy enemy, so to speak.

You will find there's some utterly amazing talent out there. There will always be someone better than you, doing the same thing you do, but better. That person will always be in front of you no matter where you are.

Realizing that, and finding a way to get the attention of the WHO and trumping the HO is what you need to do.

They say chicks are attracted to shiny objects. What's YOUR shiny object?

Craig, gave you great advice, if you truelly think you have what it takes at an early stage in life before you get all the baggage is the time to make your mark. Move to a location that musically is the mecca of the style you want to pursue, find the names of movers and shakers and get to know them and constantly be honing your craft and particurlary your song writing. I think in the end songwriting is the key. Good Luck and send me some free stickers when you get huge!

Craig is right . Its called networking. Move wherever there is and become part of the scene and keep your eyes and ears open. If you are good and focussed, and don't get distracted with the poussy or drugs you have a chance.

In this respect, music is no different from any business.

Networking matters.

Most of my best opportunities in both music and programming have been a direct result of knowing someone who knew someone. But you need to be sure you're ability and motivation are up to it once you start pursuing these opportunities.
