I wandered into ( and backed out of) a gay bar in Galveston once by mistake.

Does that count ?

Music isn't THAT important if the band sucks. I've got better things to do than listen to a crappy band....

Fisherman. If you lived in a place where bands, music were all around you, you would understand perhaps?

Nightlife?

I sometimes say that most of the local bands suck, etc..

But the reality of it is simply that it's just a handful of the local acts, usually playing at teh dive-ist of dives down on the corner.

I stroll into a jazz club or any small pub known for having quality musicians, well, frankly, most of these guys can run musical circles around me.. I enjoy watching them.

Here's a mellow, relaxing, and refreshing blast from the past :)

Hell yes the music matters !!
The music doesn't have to suck to turn me out the door.
I dont like getting bloody ears from loud bands. I think most bands play way too loud for the venue their playing and that will send me home everytime anymore . The quality of the material their playing doesn't bother me as much as the way its presented . I can usually tell from outside if I want to go in.

But its another day in Paradise !!!!

Chip many times I would be somewhere like Beale Street in Memphis and walk donw the street and listen to bands before I entered.

In the summer time there are plenty of street bands and musicians playing that can run circles around average players like me. I used to try to find old blues standards and try to stump these bands. Its not very often that they couldnt pull the songs out. I would be curious to know how many songs some of these folks can play. That would be interesting!

That's the one JW. I remember looking in the windows too to see what clientèle they had too LOL. I think it matters a great deal. If there is a band on somewhere you hear word of it but if you are just out on the town there are buzzes and noises everywhere, I think your choices are based on that before entering, the crowd attention and so on.

Just my take of course...

If you're at a venue and you're having a great tie DESPITE a band playing there that sucks AND you decide to stay, that's YOUR choice. I would assume in a city you have many choices of venues. I would hope that in a city because of competition that most of the venues have very good bands. If I ever go out to a bar it is only because there's a band there that I want to listen to. Even when I was younger if I went to a venue with a lousy band I took off...However if there was a gorgeous redhead there showing an interest in me, well just maybe I'd stick around a little while...

Lol :D
Same here actually. Yeah I guess geography plays a lot in this doesn't it. Like wise really I just remember the town life I suppose and what made me enter and what made me walk away. I'd never walk away if she was there. :D
