Once again, balance is the question.

There is no way that this many people on a planet, burning stuff, using resources, will not have an effect on the environment, and adversely so, because we are not good stewards of the only home we have currently.

I have been to South American countries where their cities were so dense with polution it was hard to breath. I had to leave the city, and visit other places because it was choking my lungs... and I am a SMOKER! :shock:

Lax pollution standards are the reason for it.

All that pollution and gases and smoke going up into the atmosphere MUST have an effect eventually. We know what smoke does to us... to our homes... in a bar. That is merely a few cigarettes... what happens when all the world's factories are sending a near endless stream of it out into the environment and up into the atmosphere?

Warming trneds?

Yeah, who knows what that all means?

But there is no doubt the pollution is going to ruin more and more resources and quality of life. A recent report suggests the oceans may become 150% more acidic over the next 40 years. What does that do to the fish?

Lots of fishermen here. You ever worry about eating some of those fish these days? I do. Higher mercury levels, toxic waste finding it's way into the waters.

Bees are disappearing.

That scares the hell out of me.

COLORS:

It is not that people cannot comprehend how small but consistent changes to the temperature can affect things... we have all grown up learning by now, that everything affects everything else. We are in a complex eco-system.

It is more the fear-based doom and gloom. Think Y2K and others. Many people are like.... "Yeah, we've heard this before and life goes on, and the hype passes!"

It's not that they don't want clean air to breath... They just aren't going to be gullible, about the "Sky is Falling" type of pronouncements. And with the exposure of some in the scientific community, being busted for PLAYING with those very numbers, because it turns out there is actually some unexplained cooling having gone on for the last decade... well... can you blame them? And Ron is right... it has taken on an almost religious nature, for advocates of restricting and limiting and FINING everything in sight, when it is not fully understood, what we are dealing with.

That said, it's also good to keep in mind the "Boy who cried wolf" story, but with reverse punishment. Maybe they have shouted alarms too early, but what if THIS TIME they are right? And the wolf really is there?

DOUBTERS:

For all the hype, and now the jokes about helping to increase the demise of our environment... Let me just remind everyone ONE MORE TIME... We don't get second chances on THE ONLY AIR WE HAVE TO BREATH... and the ONLY FOOD WE HAVE TO EAT... and the ONLY PROTECTIVE ATMOSPHERE WE HAVE TO KEEP US SAFE FROM THE SUN'S POWERFUL HEAT AND DEADLY ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT!

WE HAVE ONE PLANET PEOPLE.

ONE.

Please don't forget that, in the midst of all the "Let Rome Burn" fun.

You want to take chances with YOUR part of our air, then hold your breath all you want to. But you have no right to play around with OUR LIVES.

Ya know?

Craig , Craig , Craig ,...
Yes we have to protect planet earth.
No we can not allow PROGGRESIVE peoples to be in charge of such an important responsibility. I fear their agenda is has nothing to do with protecting planet earth.
The key here is scary... PROGGRESIVE means = CONTROL, TOTAL CONTROL.

Save the planet. :)
Shoot ,I cant type as fast as you ,so I am getting a new program that will type as fast as I speak......

NOW YOUR IN TROUBLE :lol:

LMAO!!! ;-)

But you didn't need to type alot on this... I think we are pretty close to being in full agreement. There -ARE- eco-whackos out there, and they always seem to be the LOUDEST of the bunch, and if they had their way UNCHECKED and UNDEBATED, it would be a nightmare, hampering growth and freedom, while plunging the economy even further down the tubes!

BALANCED ANSWERS and a GOOD PLAN are needed.

Not knee-jerk reactions that cause us whole new problems.

The whackos among them, are like Kudzu proponents.

Kudzu was brought into America and into Georgia, because it grows and spreads fast and is hardy. But as always when you screw with quick fixes drawn from nature... it's a little TOO HARDY and with no natural foe keeping it in check, it is killing the trees and native plants all over Georgia, because it grows over everything and smothers it, hogging the sunlight above, and the water and nutrients below.

So many times this has happened.

And this would be little difference.

They would use a hydrogen bomb to solve the problem, and worry about the radiation some other time.

Global Warming is just like Y2k, 2012, and other events the media blew up that had/will have no effect whatsoever.

But it sure is a good way for companies to make money by selling "Go Green" products..."Green" cars, mercury light bulbs, and just about a "green" everything else.

Have you seen the commercials asking you to send money to "save the dying polar bears"? It shows these 2 polar bears sitting on a little chunk of ice floating in the water...But what they don't show you, is that if you pan the camera over about 3 inches, you'll see about a thousand miles of ice land. The Arctic has a COAST you know.

And what exactly would that money go to? Could they take that money and re-freeze the ice? Highly improbable.

It's all about control. If Al Gore and the rest of the group can get enough people to believe their theories, they'd then have the power to get complete control. "Send us money and buy all our products so humanity can continue!" "Okay, you must be right because you're in a position of power...I don't want to die!"

Damn, Glen! You are one paranoid dude!

DO keep in mind that the word "liberal" means "foward-thinking," & NOT "control freak."

For me, I prefer the American aboriginal approach to new ideas - think it through - what will be the impact of any given idea 4 generations from now?

Of course, we prolly wouldn't have accepted the automobile if we followed that model. Then again, we wouldn't find ourselves so dependent upon foreign oil.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These actually COULD be signs of GW, though. As the arctic ice melts, the ocean's currents draw those unsalted cold waters south to cause extreme cold, for a time.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34706351/ns ... ws-europe/
These types of news releases could very well be the norm for awhile, yet, even if we are undergoing global warming!
I remember the Global Cooling mantra. Even Barney Miller made reference to it in one of its episodes (I watched that show religiously :).
There's a scare every decade. And the scare is always backed by scientific certitude. And then by the next decade, the previous scare just "disappears" from the public conscience - no more mention of it, to make room for the next scare. Talk about cycles...
Chris, you seem way to young to have seen Barney Miller brother. That's either a compliment to your youthful look, or you've been watching Nick at Night! LOL (is it even on there?)
That was a great show!
Great cast!
Haha. I started watching t.v. real young. They were, I'm sure, all re-runs but they were on channel 2 every night, along with MASH, WKRP in cincinatti, and and host of other comedies that I couldn't not watch before doing my homework ;) I think I was in 3rd or 4th grade at the time. I'm 41.
Y2K had real consequences - just not the kind the media was reporting. Fortunately, most companies that were going to be affected by outdated software put the money and programmers into fixing the problem long before it was going to be an issue. The fact that you didn't experience a problem with your bank account is evidence to the solid work that a lot of software people did to ensure nothing went wrong.
And if you had a brain, you'd know that polar bears can't hunt for food on the coast, you friggin' moron. Go educate yourself about polar bears before you make another stupid comment.
When the polar bears come out of hibernation, they have already lost up to 1/3 of their body weight. They're starving. at that point. Their best food source are seals and other marine life that congregate on the temporary ice shelf. The coast is a barren wasteland of snow. The only creatures there are ones the polar bears can't catch.
The polar bear's prime hunting habitat after hibernation is the thin layer of ice that reaches out from the coast. Marine life congregates on this shelf, and it is the hunting grounds for the bears. Polar bears are not marine animals; they can swim, and swim well enough to occasionally catch food, but they can't swim forever. Without the ice sheet to attract the marine life, they polar bears run out of food and die.
Due to global climate change, the ice shelf is receding. Each winter, when the ice shelf forms, it is smaller and smaller, and it melts faster. The time for the bears to use it as a hunting grounds to fatten themselves up is smaller.
This is a habitat that is going away, and it's taking the bears with them. Animals can't survive without habitat. They can't just jump in their gas guzzling SUV and run to the nearest Costco and stock up on food.
Due yourself a favor and go look at the videos from the Extreme Ice Survey. The glaciers are melting - and not just one or two. Every glacier in the world is receding.
Burying our heads in the sand is NOT a solution...
Let the polar bears die out.
Theyre mean bastards, and their only real function from what I can tell, is to eat seals.
Save the mosquito!!
