Just got done jamming with a guy using a autotune device.

If you use that, you may as well say you can't sing in key.

If you say that you better be playing an instrument, you flat pile of sheet.

If you can't hold key and are perpetually flat or sharp, take up a new hobby like classic cars, that way no one will ever have to listen to you yowl like a stray cat.

(apologies to B. Setzer)

I fear that just as the art of the sword was lost after the invention of the gun that the art of singing will be lost ( or at least severely limited ) by said device. Several years ago I had heard some hired guns complaining about various popular female vocalist inability to carry a tune during rehearsal when the "computer" was off.
A shell of pretty smile and silicone boobs being marketed as a vocalist by casting couch producers.
Before long all popular music may be just Guitar Hero bullshyt.

I tell ya boys.
Real music by real musicians will have to "underground".
Self produced and marketed in local venues by musician entrepreneurs. (thank goodness for spell check)

I clicked the link with the lyrics included, but I turned away the first time through, to test it out. Yeah, some of that was indecipherable.

:-)

Looked like they were playing for a good sized crowd.

Yea man, Tribal Seeds is starting to get pretty big in the Reggae scene. That singer just has a perfect sound for it. One of my favorite Reggae bands for sure. Usually when you see Reggae crowds that size, it's a Festival. But there are bands making $3,000- $10,000 per show at those festivals. Not exactly the big-time, but it's descent pay in my book. You still enjoy a lot of perks and per-diem that goes along with it.

And by the way.. This is the Auto-Tune I'm talking about:

In case anyone didn't understand where I was coming from.

Yeah, Chip - I liked Peter Gabrial, and Genesis and Yes - I know there's people who didn't - I always liked their song ABACAB. And there's folks who thought that song stunk . . .
I liked a lot of songs by a lot of groups - when I filled that list, I was just writing off the top of my head; I'm sure there's another 50 - 100 groups who I missed . . .
Actually - it's not so much the groups that I liked, but individual songs.
But there were a few groups and individual aritists I used to listen to where I liked almost all of their stuff.
Like Led Zep, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Mammas & the Pappas, Peter Frampton, Lynrd Skynrd, Aerosmith, Santana, Joyous Noise, Blue Oyster Cult, Tangerine Dream, Jeff Beck . . . . - and maybe another 5 - 10 others.
Yeah, I used to listen to heavy metal a lot, when I was from about 15 - 35 years old or so . . .
But after listening to it for maybe 20 years, it got old for me . . . maybe the stuff you listen to now will get old for you, too, in another 20 years . . .
Tastes change . . .

I have a gazillion pet peeves - out of tune, poor production techniques, bad arrangements, lousy lyrics, poor choice of tones, off-key singers, tempoless drumming, bad mixing, but the one thing that irks me to the core is just plain bad material, & I've heard a bunch of it over the years. Why put all that effort into a bad song? Some ppl just have no taste at all.
