If I get a chance, I will. I just got my Allen & Heath MixWizard 16:2 last week... It records well.

Then you can get all giddy wetting yourself while you mock me :P

How do you like that mixer Colors thats the same one I have! Did you get the 16-2? :D

I did get the 16:2. Yes.

So far, I love it. I've never played through a mixer that sounds this good.

All I have right now to test it is my in-ear monitors. I haven't got speakers for it yet.

I thought it was pretty good initially when I miked my Mesa Boogie with an SM57. And then I decided to try and direct Record out on the Triaxis, and that was okay too. Then I decided to use BOTH signals at the same time... holy F*CK me... it sounded so full and awesome... So that's what I'm rolling with live - I'm going to use the microphone and the direct in. Because it sounds killer.

I took the output off the headphone jack and pushed it into my Zoom H2 and was impressed. I'm not sure what the correct way to record is with it - I'm a serious neophyte with the recording equipment and mixers and such. But just taking the output off the headphones I was pleased.

Now I just need mains, monitors (for the rest of the band, cause they're not going in-ear) and an EQ...

Colors:

You used both the direct out of your amp and a mic?
Both inputs into the mixer?
Did I understand you right?
I have considered doing this as well. First I'll have to free up an input in the mixer. I'd like to get a small mixer just for the drum mics. Bust that all down into just one XLR into the PA.
If you have L & R monitor outputs with 1/4 jacks try taking that into your Zoom (signal only of course)

Yep, that is correct. The 16:2 has 16 inputs on it. I have the SM57 going into input #1 and the direct in from the Triaxis going into input #2. And, when I play my Ibanez Piezo guitar, I actually have three inputs, because I have the output directly from the Piezo on the guitar going to input #3.

The distortion sounds way fuller.. Each of those inputs, on their own, sounds pretty decent. But they each have a different sound. The SM57 doesn't pick everything up - obviously. It's a microphone, so you just don't get the *exact* sound that your ears are hearing.

The direct out from the Triaxis sounds pretty good, but again - it's a direct out, so it's missing the ambiance of a speaker cabinet. So it doesn't sound quite right by itself.

But when you combine the two signals... man... it's a world of awesome. Especially with a really good mixer like this. I mean, I read about how the preamps on this thing were top notch, but holy cow... what a great sound.

If I can get to it this weekend I'll post something. Because it's worth it, I think, to hear it and hear the difference. If I get a chance what I'll do is post a sound clip of the Sm57, and then with the same guitar riff I'll do the direct in, and then I'll do a third take with both inputs and you can hear the difference yourself.

And then I'll try and post some wanking so folks can make fun of me. Which, by the way - I never claimed to be a great guitar player. I know I'm mediocre in every way. This is a craft I work on, and I'm a long way from being good.

But that doesn't mean my ears can't hear the different between good and bad, or that my brain can't differentiate between sameness and diversity, or wanking and soulful playing...

Honestly, I wish I could play like some the folks here. I think I'd put that sort of talent to a lot better use than the mindless wanking I've heard so far.

Having "understanding" of a skill does not require having the skill itself.

It is doubtful many food critics are professional chefs.

And most movie critics are not actors or directors.

Yet they are professional critics, well paid, widely published and their opinions taken seriously and generally respected.

Colors

Thanks for the tip.
I'll have to give it a shot. My musical budget has been limited of late, and I guess I read too many tech specs and reviews on mics.
I'm going to get that SM57 now, well after I figure out how to free up a space on the board. So I can try out the double input route.
I love my amp, and I want that sound (or as close as I can get) pouring through the mains.
Best wishes and thanks again.

I appreciate you waiting. I really do.

I don't know why you are though. I mean, you really have to dislike someone quite ab it to sit around and wait for them to make a video so you can mock them, don't you? I mean, I've already admitted I'm not a great guitar player - I'm perfectly comfortable admitting that in fact. I mean, you have to be honest with yourself, don't you? And I am. I know where I am as a player, I know where I want to be, and I do my work to get there. Isn't that enough?

So what's your deal man? I mean, are you that bitter? That childish?

Because honestly - I'm a freaking busy guy. This video is going to take time...

Sean,

You seem upset that no one here worships you because you tap out triads on a guitar?

Colors has acted reasonably with you, but you take it to a personal level.

Why?

Because you aren't being worshipped for doing, what we can watch 200 14 year olds do on YouTube every day of the week?

I think every one here has said you are a really good guitarist?

Why isn't that enough for you?

Well said, Craig. I used to really like David Lee Roth's singing, but after seeing him be a dick so many times, I can't stand the sound of his vocals even on the old VH stuff. Sean, is that the path you truly want to take? I know it's only just so many of us on bandmix reading your vendetta to Colors, but it makes me wonder if you do the same thing in other aspects of your life. How about dropping it while we still like your playing?
Just a thought.

If a man cant give his honest opinion, agreed upon or not.
Then there is no point in the forum at all.

I agree Craig and thanks, but if someone is going to comment on techniques on guitar, especially the way colors does, he should be able to play.

I will ignore any comments that colors has from here on in. I don't go into a drum forum and talk about playing drums just becase I think I know what sounds good.

Thanks, Sean.
