A wise man would be getting ready to sit with his family soon and enjoy a day of feasting after that merry eve would they not? I'm not that wise at all I'm working on backing up my tracks and making aging PC 2 Linux Studio ready for when I've completed stage one. Again I'm not a wise man.

Mind I'm off up the road to feed the wild cats soon poor sods. They haven't been able to get out for 7 days owing to the deep snow. Probably drop in on my neighbour too to see if they are ok?

Oh well.

Three Wise Men, they were Persian Magi that came to see what all the hoopla was about. They were priests of the Persian Mystery godman Mithras. They brought frankincense and myrrh. They found Jesus by following a star, the Morning Star which is actually the planet Venus.

Thanks for biting. the bible never says more than that there were wise men. There were 3 gifts - gold, frankincense, and myrrh and people have commonly said there were 3 wise men.

There are several common misconceptions about the bible.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness..... not found in the bible.
We are to celebrate the birth of Christ.... not there either.
Eve ate of the apple and gave it to Adam.... not there - it was "a fruit"

Here is something that might interest people if you follow that faith?
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=ubuntuce

Actually I think this is a great idea. Be free and follow what you want?
Only Linux would provide this. It's completely FREE and works very well in other formats.

I was looking for updates to kernels and came across this so if you have a persuasion if could be what you are looking for?

Cheers.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem

Because they could not find three wise men or a virgin in Texas.

Paul, there are a hell of a lot more 'misconceptions' than that in the book, lol! Anyway, my answer was not based on the Christian Bible, but from many other sources.

that wasn't misconception "in" the bible. It was "about".

What happened at Jesus' birth has always been confusing to me. If in fact wise men visited him with gifts right after his birth, why didn't they follow his life while he was growing up? You would have figured if the son of God was found right at birth his life would have been just a little less mysterious than it was...never really understood this.

The wise men were what would now be called astrologers. They were following the star. King Herod upon learning this, wanted the maji to bring Jesus to him once they found him. King Herrod's goal was to put the baby to death. Jesus birth had been predicted many years beforehand and was expected by many, especially rulers.

The star was probably luminated by Satan who also wanted Jesus dead. Satan's way of saying "he's here". This was not a pleasant time for the baby or his family. When the astrologers saw the baby they "forgot" that it was their mission to return the child to the king and eventually moved on without Jesus. Soon the king placed an order to kill all boys 2 years old in hopes that they kill the Son of God. So chances are Jesus was not an infant in a cradle but most likely an older child. Something else, Jesus was most likely born in October.

Any takers?

There's been numerous speculations of Jesus' birthdate. I don't think it really matters what day he was born. What matters is understanding who he is. There's so much mystery surrounding his birth and most of his life. We may never know the real truth about his early years.

The Persian 'Magi' were Astrologers among many things. Being a Magus involved many Occult arts. The 'planet' Venus is quite visible in the sky during the Winter Solstice (take a look outside right now), nothing to do with satan.

I don't believe Christ was born in October or December as the Gospels describe flocks of sheep and that would denote more around Spring/Fall.

But of course December 25 was the chosen day just like all the other Dying/Resurrecting god/men's birth dates.

Yep. Shepard in the field at night. Spring then is likely.

Acts 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

It seems to me to be a slap in the face to say "Jesus we will celebrate your birth once a year on some random day that coincides with an ancient pagan holiday though you never asked us to. But we won't do what you said and remember your death, your ultimate sacrifice, on a weekly basis as you have shown us to do."

Acts 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Luke 22 also gives an account of the Lord's supper.

Food for thought.
