Check this one out. In grade 11 metal shop (1971-1972), some nimrod in my class brought in a maple Telecaster neck with the frets removed. It seems that he reckoned a horizontal milling machine was just the ticket for taking the radius off the fretboard (Like I was thinking back then, you just know no good can come of this) So the luthier king cranks the mill up as fast as it will go, and proceeds to feed the neck towards the blade headstock first. Well it seems he has the table set a tad on the high side, so as soon as the blade meets the neck it rips it out of its clamps and fires it about 100 mph across the shop where it smashes into a metal lathe, and breaks into about 10 pieces. I did the only thing a sympathetic fellow guitar player could do...I laughed till I cried!

Danf all we ever did was make pipes and all sit in a room spraying lacquer on junk people had made. After class all of us would go back to the other school building with lacquer all over us, which made our hair look white and skin pale. We all aged a bit in that class!

I guess the most excitement we ever had in there was when Danny H cut the end of his thumb off with the table saw.

It was also a seperate building from the rest of the school next to the parking lot so there was a lot of skipping from that class and running up to the Sonic!

Those were the days. "Son, What did you make in shop class all year?" "12 peace pipes, a bong and a chess table!"
