A couple of ideas for you...
1.) If you're going to play over an R&B track that already has a percussion instrument on it, it would be good to pan your recording to the left and pan the original over to the right so that potential bandmates can hear just you or turn the left channel in the stereo up to highlight your playing.
2.) Download some example jam trax for percussionists and play along to them.
3). Download some midi tracks and kill the percussion channels and play along to them.
4.) Look out for accoustic versions of tracks on YouTube to play along to them as the percussion is usually minimalist or not there at all.
5.) Midi BASS lines: reduce midi files of tracks you really love to bass only and play along to them...added bonus is that potential bandmates can now play along to your track (remember to pan BASS to left so bass players can turn left channel down and play along to.
Label the tracks as demos so that people will understand that they're examples of your style and technique.
If you struggle (i.e. not got the gear to do these) let me know and I can prepare a few tracks for you.
