Well, my clumsiness finally did me in.

My guitar's headstock is cracked due to my own carelessness. I don't know what the cost would be to repair it, but because of the damage, it's probably going to end up being more than the guitar is worth. So that means I have to buy another one. That's $550 I can't afford to shell out, because those God-forsaken textbook publishers got me for another $500 this semester.

What the hell is wrong with them? College students wouldn't be so ridiculously poor without their ridiculous prices. They're freaking greedy.

Obviously I need help finding a new one (that doesn't suck) before my band's next show on the 5th. Pray for me, guys (for those of you that do), and if you know of anyplace that'd be good for me to check out, that would be greatly appreciated.

It's a buyers market now with the economy. Pick up a $100 - $250 guitar on craigslist locally.

As far as guitars go, I really dont recall what type you use, but a good used Mexi Strat plays good and dont sound all that bad either.
If you lived a tad closer I'd let you use mine.

It's not too hard to fix a headstock dawg. I've done it a bunch of times. I even fixed HEAD from Korn's head-stock on one of his Ibanez guitars. I've done it to about 6-guitars total. Mainly Ibanez necks. They have such a steep angle, and they're so thin, that they always have a tendency to split at the top just underneath the locking nut.

All you need is some regular yellow wood glue, a syringe, and a clamp.

No, I don't. The guitar won't stay in tune anymore. The crack goes straight through the low E's tuning machine.

Guitar: get an estimate from a DECENT local store [no big names]. If it's too much, start looking now. I can't remember what you play.. post-hardcore or something?

College books: I dunno what your major is, but most can be found on the web as e-books for a lot less [or some for free, if you get what I'm sayin.]

Seriously, I snapped the headstock right off from my 1980 Hamer Special and my luthier was able to repair it. Gorilla Glue and a vice.

I just repaired a Washburn Dobro model wd-6 that had a broken head piece. It broke right in half through the high e stirng and the low e string in a vee shape down through the neck below the fret nut. I was afraid that once glued it would be weak and not note true. So, I measured very carefully and drilled two small holes up into the head stock piece and down into the neck and dowel rodded it with an old 3/16" allen wrench. I cut the L off or the end with a die grinder and cut it in half aprox. 2.5 inches long and epoxyed it into the neck first and then later epoxyed the head stock onto the guitar and dowels and then clamped every thing in place. I filled the missing pieces of wood with epoxy and shaped it with a file and then sanded it back to shape and painted. It turned out great and notes and plays beautifully. The whole project took about a week and around $35.00 in materials. Good luck.

Depending where it's broken, it can be fixed.
If not, bolt on aftermarket necks are really cheap and high quality these days. I have some all maple Jackson style necks with black shark tooth inlays I got for $40 brand new shipped to my door off Ebay from Eden builders.

They're MUCH higher quality than any Fender neck that's for sure.
Are they what you want though?

Botom line is it's a buyers market and you can get something very high quality for 200 bucks these days.
