We have a huge show Saturday and the drummer quit today. I replaced him within an hour with the drummer from my other band Tunafinger. Why are drummers such neurotic messes?

Didn't like the color of his shoelaces, got a better offer, tired of hauling his gear for little profit, didn't like the set, someone upset him, family troubles, read what people say about about other band members on BandMix?

Could be anything unless you are not telling us what his reasons were?
Your lucky you got another to fill in right? :D

I'm a dick with sticks too but what do I know.

Shame on you Jeff (I know ya gotta be kidding)

We previously kicked the topic of "drummer's status as musicians"around in the past, and had arived at an overwhelming consensus that they are, for the most part, musicians of high standing in any decent functional band.

I bet that most of us, who have been gigging for a while, can recall a time when key band members, drummers or otherwise, turned into asswholes just before a gig.

To be honest, I've done in myself back in the 60's!
Fortunately, my Mom intervened, and told me that I may not treat my bandmates in such manner, and if I wanted to quit, it was none of her affair, but stated that I MUST honer my commitments if I was being depended upon.
I played the gig and it worked out fine.

Jimmy,
Hope everything works out for you. I'd be willin' to bet that it will.

Did you hear about the bass player who locked his keys in the car?
He had to break a window to get the drummer out!
---
I asked my drummer to spell "Mississippi"...
He said, "the river or the state?"
---
How do trumpet players park in the handicap spots?
They put drumsticks on the dash.
---
Q: Why is a drum machine better than a drummer?
A: Because it can keep a steady beat and won't sleep with your girlfriend.

Oh, of course I was kidding. All musicians (and drummers  ) are put into categories for the sake of jokes, aren't we?

Drummers are flaky.
Lead vocalists are Prima Donnas.
Lead guitarists have the biggest egos (and rightly so. :) )
Bass players just stand there, or they move around too much and overplay.
Keyboardists want to play on every song, even if it doesn't have keyboards.
Accordian players.....'Nuff said. :)
and on and on....

Come on everybody. Let's see some more examples. Whatta ya think?
All in good fun, of course.

We used to have all kinds of trouble keeping drummers happy in the early to mid 90's, now it's guitar players. Some things seem to run in cycles, no rhyme or reason to it. I've been playing with the same drummer now for many years. He's like my brother...

I'm glad that Pseudonyms still exist.
Whatever could we do without them?
