Yes, this is actually a musical post!

Okay...my grandson needs some frikken culture.

I've been singing to him, but I can't remember that many tunes for ppl his age. Remember these?

Comet - will make your teeth turn green
Comet - it tastes like gas-o-line
Comet - will make you vomit
So buy some comet & vomit today

or...

Be kind to your web-footed friends
For a duck may be somebody's mother.
They live in the fields & the swamp
Where the weather is so damp.
You may think that this is the end
Well it is

The one I've been going crazy trying to remember, though, ends with:

The worms crawl in
The worms crawl out
In your stomach &
Out your mouth
The worms crawl in
The worms crawl out
And I for-got my spoon!

Does anyone remember this thing, or was it just a regional thing? This is driving me to distraction.

Hey thanks, Mary!

I don't think any of them were the song I used to sing, but they are way cool!

LOL

Know any other kids songs?

Great big gobs of greasy, grimey gopher guts. (sung to the tune of "The Old Gray Mare"
or
My bonnie has tuberculosis
It's eating away her left lung.
She coughs up the bloody corruption,
and rolls it around on her tongue.

THAT was how the song started, as I recall, Jeff! Thank you, too!

I'm getting closer...

LMAO!!!!

Yeah, that uber-religious day-care Jace goes to ("Little Angels") would really love to hear THAT coming from his mouth, if he ever starts to talk or sing!

Okay, this sounds a little gay, but it's the very 1st song I ever learned, so bear with me...

Oh I'd rather suck on a lemon drop
Than to try my luck with a lollipop.
I always drop my lollipop
And it gets all over ICKY!

I think my dad taught me that when I was 3 or so. I've never forgotten it, much to my dismay.

Here's one, but it's not exactly like I remember it..
memory fades, tho.
I also cant remember what tune it's sung to.. ahh.. well..

On top of spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
I lost my poor meatball,
When somebody sneezed.

It rolled off the table,
And on to the floor,
And then my poor meatball,
Rolled out of the door.

It rolled in the garden,
And under a bush,
And then my poor meatball,
Was nothing but mush.

The mush was as tasty
As tasty could be,
And then the next summer,
It grew into a tree.

The tree was all covered,
All covered with moss,
And on it grew meatballs,
And tomato sauce.

So if you eat spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
Hold on to your meatball,
Whenever you sneeze.

Every night I read 1 - 4 books to my 2 girls. 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 years old.
then we sing most or all of these. Gooood times.
You are my sunshine
The wheels on the bus
ABC's
Twinkle Twinkle little star
Jesus loves me
Jesus loves the little children
The itsy bitsy spider

But there is always ...

Great green gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts
mutilated monkey meat
itsy bitsy birdy feet
Great green gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts
and me without a spoon

but I got my straw slurp slurp

Yeah, that's the one I was trying to think of, Paul.
(except our version was "marianated monkey nutz" for the second line)

Glad to help Phil, anything to further the education of our next generation.

Here's another:

How dry I am,
How wet I'll be
If I don't find
The bathroom key
Now here's the key
But where's the door?
Aw, oops, too late
It's on the floor

And my absolute least favorite of them all, the booger song:
Everybody's doin' it, doin' it, doin' it,
Pickin' their nose and.. \\

nevermind.. I just cant do it..

Peanut sittin' on a railroad track,
His heart was all a-flutter.
Along came a train and woo woo,
Now he's peanut butter.

That was one our dad would always sing to us. :)

Ya know, it's just starting to sink in just how musical my own childhood was, & I suspect the rest of us, too. Even without the radio or tv, as kids, we managed to hear all sortsa weird twisted little songs, or make them up.

I've heard more of these than I thought I would have. I would have thought there would be a lot of regional differences, kids making up their own songs, or mis-hearing words & using them like "Chicken To Ride," that great Linkun/McFarty tune.

It seems that these kids things are more universal than I expected, but I wonder how many kids today are hearing these, after the advent of MTV & sat radio & having both parents working & our new political correctness & such.

Who is singing these & other such songs today? I'm not hearing them like I did back then, but then again, I'm hanging out with a slightly different demographic than I did back then, too. Perhaps all is well, & these lil gems ARE being passed on. I sure hope so.

Anyway - keep 'em comin'. This boy needs entertaining education!

Thank you all so very much!
