I also heard that the Australian government department of consumer affairs is fining the Spears tour for not printing on the tickets for her tour that she is lip-synching. Britney is the most IRRELEVANT performer in history. Do you remember Milli Vanilli? Not only did they lip-synch, they didn't sing on any of their recordings. They were lip-synching their own tunes which were NOT sung by them! And they laughed all the way to the bank. Just as Britney is laughing all the way to the bank.

Eh...I EXPECT them to lip-synch when they're dancin' their butts off, just cuz it's so hard to pull it off with the breathing thingie. Some can do it. Some can't.

I think it's funny that they would feel the need to lip-sych, though, when it's obvious that no one could sing while spinning & jumping up & down & stuff. Either dance, or sing. Don't pretend you can do both.

It's just cheesy as hell, ain't it?

I hope Australia does sue her. This crap should be stopped. It gives little girls a bad self image when they discover they can't do it, either.

LMAO!

In their defense, there's a documentary about it, and it's actually quite a crappy story. Both of them could sing exceptionally well, and practically begged the label to let them.. they wanted to do what was right by them- but the label refused, and it was in their contract, nothing they could do (poor contract negot. .. how many musicians are guilty of THAT?)
One ended up killing himself as a result of the shame.

Yet Ashless simpson didn't suffer ONE BIT, in fact, she got even MORE famous because of the publicity... sad times.

Not any of my money involved in that laughter to the bank routine.
Don't much care for any of the afore mentioned acts anyway.
Dont even consider them to be "musical" or "musicians" though I am sure there are some fine (but misguided) musicians who work for them.
The average American has the entertainment IQ of a potato.
I,d rather watch / hear a middle school orchestra than BS in "concert".

Music videos on MTV are quite a different story. Due to the plot of the video, if there is one, and the diverse locations, lip synch is a requirement. You must also realize that many of these people, like Sting or Phil Collins for example, can actually sing quite well, and chances are they did actually sing while filming but without a mic and without recording the vocals, which had already been recorded in the studio.

American Bandstand was very different. they gave the impression that the bands were actually playing, which was pure fake. The only reason I ever watched it was to see the groups live, I knew even then they were not really playing or singing, it was usually pretty obvious, and I hated that aspect of it. I would much rather see them play live. But alas, it was my only chance to see Jefferson Airplane, the Doors, Herman's Hermits, Bee Gees, and many other 60's acts that never came anywhere near central Louisiana. Even if they did play concerts close by, my father hated rock and would never let me go anyway. So it was American Bandstand and Ed Sullivan or nothing.

As far as lip synching in a live concert setting, I'd demand my money back too if I paid over $100 to see it. If the dancing makes it impossible to sing, there's a simple solution. Don't dance...Organize your show so that you can still actually sing, don't rip off your fans. A good show is nice, but don't let it hamper the music.
