I'd forget about looking at local open mikes for this style of music, unless someone knows something I don't . . . you could go, and ask around . . .
.
But you don't HAVE to ask around.
You can talk directly to folks who are already doing it.
.
I found tons and tons of electronic musicians by becoming friends with "Tangerine Dream," and noting on my MySpace page that we were friends.
.
Over the subsequent months, a lot of folks of the same genre contacted me, asking to be my friend . . .
.
You can go to their page, and see who their friends are.
Hover over each friend image, and it tells you where they are from. And you can contact any of those musicians or bands - whether unknown or famous - for free.
I've found and contacted a lot of local musians that way - perhaps 100 - 150 or so . . .
. . . and for free, btw . . .
Every one of them has music posted for your perusal.
A lot of them are gigging already, looking to gig, want to form a band, want to record, or just want to play along with you.
And every one of them has friends who are also into electronic music.
. . . visit their friends and hover - you'll find even more, and eventually locals . . .
If I spent the time, I could probabaly find 200 electronic music musicians every day of the week.
Contact them (for free), and say, "Hey, I'm XYZ; know of anybody in LA?"
.
It's been my experience with folks in this genre that they are very open-minded.
Message them, tell them you like their music; then tell them you have an offer for them.
