Thanks for that link. I'm on a few collab. sites already, but the problem there is that everybody's an amateur. Nobody wants to pay a session guy to do his job!

I guess I had hoped this site would help in the promotion, but so far, not too much, just a bunch of start-ups that wanna "jam out and have a few beers for a good time". Then again, this site is called "Band Mix", not "Session Drone Mix"!

Yeah... Most everyone here is just your average Joes. I know what you mean about 'wanna be's' too...Because I used to be ONE! Can you believe that ! Naaa, You wont find any good contacts here Bub. We all drink to much damn beer for one thing. Between you and me, I think that I might had been ,'White Trailer Trash' at one time or another through the years. Oh Well.....Theres still alot of good people at BandMix. Even if we are all just a bunch of Bar tenders & waitresses. We still have our delusions of grandeur. Peace...

I know what the prob is...
for me anyway... 'I'm good enough that I am not going to pay anyone to sit in with me'... it would sit like an insult with me. If you want studio work go to a studio and post flyers... collab is for amatuers who want a good demo. No one on collab site is gonna pony up the money cause they aren't going to make money on the music (more than likely).
Furthermore, If you wan't studio work... you are probably going to have to do commercial jingles and other stuff cause no band is gonna pay a drummer to sit in and track for them (cause they prob have a drummer).
The ppul who don't have a band are looking to cut a cheep demo and become a star.
another alternative would be sample cd's. you can record your kit, and some loops, and put them on ebay. If your kit sounds good and your loops are tight ppul will pay $20 a pop... and believe me they will sell (I've sold several gtr bass and key cd's). Overhead is nothin' (time + cd's) and you can prob avg one a day(per cd). just a thought

I really love the internet collab idea - the problem is that it's turning out to not quite fit the reality, and it's not the fault of the other players. I have discovered that net collab sites (I've tested a few of them out now) tend to attract the same kinds of players and projects....namely, almost everything seems to be in the R&B, blues, rock pop vein with very little to no deviation. So as I say, what goes on is very "same-y" if you get my drift. If you are in a more eclectic or alternative genre and you need, say, a cellist and a dijereedoo player to fill out your reorchestration of a 14th century Renaissance ballad, you stand almost zero chance of having any luck on an internet collab site.

Now, this well may be a case of the medium being so new, and perhaps not drawing such diverse players and projects yet, so I'm not giving up. Just giving you a perspective at this time from one who is not in the "usual" music genres.

irminsul - you are not from this planet... I mean that in the nicest way possible. I can imagine you would have a hard time finding what you are looking for but hear me out on this... go to myspace and look for those instruments... talk ppul from there in to going on collab with you... you may have to offer something... uh oh, I feel a digression back to the kilt and lifting thereof thing coming on...
celist a? that outta be easy to find... dijeridoo... your gonna need a college for that one... and perhaps some weed. JK
I'm not sure collab is gonna work for you... but you have to admit for the avg four man band sound it is awesome. It may take some time, but I'd bet that collab is attracting more and more people like that... it's just... as a cellist or dijeridoo you need a mic or piezo pickup and I'm guessing most of these players aren't hip to the inet collab yet, so with time perhaps.

thedanband - yes. you aren't gonna get rich... but you can certainly make some extra cash. I made recordings of just notes of a guitar, plus chords, plus other sounds (harmonics, pickscratch, etc) and I sold them for $12 ea as I recall. Had some other stuff up there too and managed to make enough money to get some other stuff I needed on ebay. The main thing is you wanna make sure your intonnation is right on and give them the natural decay of each note of each string up to 12th fret e-e.
